Wait, isn't Aegon Rhaegar's and Elia's son? I thought Rhaegar's children were murdered by the Mountain during the sack of Kings' Landing.
It's not yet confirmed whether the person calling himself "Aegon" in the books is who he claims to be or a pretender.
I think books wise, it's pretty certain that it is Aegon, Connington is very annoyed when Tyrion figures it out, but yes not 100% certain. I also think there could be a scenario where Aegon dies in his foolhardy attempt on the Crownlands, leaving Tyrion, Jon and Dany as the 3 to ride the dragons. He's not been written in as a major character yet and would allow more focus for one of those 3 to end up on the iron throne
If you read the books, there is a whole storyline which has been kind of missed out from the tv series. The boat trip down the Rhoyne isn't actually tyrion and Mormont, it's Tyrion, Jon Connington, a few others and a young lad with blue hair known as young Griff. Connington is the former hand of the king for mad Aerys, and Rhaegar's best friend, The young lad with blue hair is claimed to be from Tyrosh, but Tyrion over the course of the journey figures out that it's actually platinum blonde hair dyed blue and that the little baby boy killed by the mountain was a decoy and that Jon Connington as 'Old Griff' has raised Aegon, 'young griff' in secret in Essos with the aide of Varys and Illyrio. By the time the last book has finished, Connington, 'Aegon' and most of the golden company have set sail for Westeros, landed in the storm lands, reclaimed Griffin's Roost (Conningtons old house). Whilst bad luck sees Tyrion picked up by Mormont (who Dany exiled in the books as a betrayer of her) and subsequently some slavers and outside the gates of Meeren. Also Barristan Selmy is pure bad ass in the book, way better than in the tv show.
I would expect Aegon to become a more prominent character in the books, as to whether or not he's a pretender or not, who knows with Martin he loves a good twist. In the TV series I'm not expecting him to turn up at all not least because Tyrion is with Dany instead. I think they'll reduce the number of players to a more manageable number for a TV series. My Mrs spends almost the entire show saying "who's that now?" I'm thinking the two stories will have diverged very significantly by the time the next book comes out...assuming he ever finishes it.
They are in consultation though so surely they'll determine that both reach the same end point. Wont they? It'd be a bit daft to have different people sitting on t'iron throne.
you'd hope so, but once TV companies have the rights to something......if they think it'll make a better storyline to do one thing and allow them to sell more advertising, they'll do it.
Might also make sense for Martin as he'd maybe struggle to sell as many books if the end had already been told in the TV series. However, if he had an alternative original version he might sell even more.....or he may just not yet know how it'll finish yet as he's writing it on the fly. I'd be quite happy for two versions = twice the enjoyment. I can count on the fingers of one fingers the number of times I've liked a TV/Film adaptation as much as a book or visa versa. I usually like one or the other.
If Aegon is still alive then it poses problems for Daenerys. She could marry him however; the Targaryens like incest.
With the book and TV diverging my conclusion is that GRRM has told the producers that fAegon is a red herring and not germaine to the eventual resolution. Hence the reason that the storyline hasn't been included in the TV.
Goes to show how rambling the last books were as I can barely remember half of the plot discussed here in them. Think I'm just going to watch it play out on TV even if some of the plot is a bit daft (the whole extension of Bronns character just because the actor is excellent)
Spoiler My reaction at the end. please log in to view this image I knew it was coming for sure, just didn't expect it to be the second episode (thought it would be a bit later). Not only that but I thought the producers would give us false hope so early with all of this tension building up and then troll us by ending the episode with his naked body just laying there. But no, we all got what we wanted.
In the scene at the end that's the longest Mellasandre has ever gone without getting her tits out. That's only a spoiler if you're waiting to see her marvellous norks.
Tbf they've slowly moved away from that now. The first 3 series was all about getting everything out but since then it's become more and more phased out
