Ok so darlow might get the plaudits today and so he should. But what a shift Townsend put in. He could hardly walk at the end of the game and that's what we have desperately wanted. He was all over the pitch and he has single minded pulled us out of the ****ter this last couple of weeks.

Don't get me wrong some other players deserve special mention but he's really spunking me off ATM.

Darlow was class today. Colback actually looked decent and so did tiote.

    Ffs we might actually survive.

    Hwtl.

I though Townsend was awesome and the goal was top draw, Darlow will get the nod for the penalty save but as you say Townsend worked hard throughout and some could take a hint from him. Good result and at least keeps us going.

Absolutely pisses me off that we gave McClaren the Bournemouth game at home. We could potentially have been 3 points better off at least.

And to think that fans were complaining when we signed Darlow and Lascelles!

McClaren should have never gotten those 18 days break. We'd be safe had Rafa been in charge at that point.

I still think we will go down because our away form will strike again at villa whos fans will all turn up to drag us down with them.

We just have to hope Sunderland and Norwich keep losing

Was it even a pen? I was the other side of the ground and there were very few appeals from the palace players. So I was surprised when it happened.

Not in a million years, it didn't even touch his hand. Shocking devises I but all turned out OK. Two wins and we survive.

I thought lascelles again was immense, he's looking like he's gonna be a top top defender...and he's ****ing quick for a big lad as well. I though mbemba was solid as well, picked up an early booking taking one for the team and that could have quite easily swayed his decision making for the rest of the game but he just cracked on and got on with it...I think having lascelles next to him as well offered him a degree of comforts. Tiote and Colback again very industrious and done a great job of breaking up play, especially in the second half...but yes Townsend was different class today and is what we have been sorely missing...pulled Anita out of the ****e more times than he should have but that's what he's there for I guess. The biggest thing for me that I've seen in the last 3-4 games is how hungry we look now when our tails are up, but also not letting our heads drop if we go a goal down, massive massive improvement of McLarens tenure for me. Not sure I could call MOTM like, Darlow made some excellent saves, not to mention the penalty but Townsend was all over the place for me so just shades it I think. I don't want to take anything away from Darlow but I really do think that Cabaye didn't want to put that penalty away. He didn't hit it with much conviction and he put it at a very nice height to be saved and he really didn't look that arsed that he'd missed if I'm honest. Darlow still had to save it and mind and it wasn't that easy that he could just catch it and throw it back out and maybe I'm just reading too much into it and it actually was a top class save! Just seems strange that they've never missed a pen all season and it happens against us! **** it, who gives a **** anyways? We won, the mackems didn't and neither did Norwich...can't grumble at that!

Just got back from a gig and watching Match of the Day on iplayer rewind. Great performance from Newcastle - Townshend was fantastic, pure class, the young lad Darlow looks a real talent and it seems Rafa has put belief back into the team. Really hope you stay up lads - best of luck.

Townsend's touch in the first half was a bit off but that free kick and his all round work rate was first class.

Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles, do you see them playing together much next season with reinforcements coming in and also provided we stay up?

If we were to stay up I've always been of the thought that we'd need a senior CB to come in and play with Mbemba, but the last few games has shown how much Lascelles has come on. It has made a huge difference having 2 CBs with pace and not having such a vulnerable defence with relics like Coloccini and Taylor in it. Lascelles physically looks the part, he's quick, he's good on the ball, good in the air, he's got leadership qualities, he's calm under pressure and makes the right choices, and he's got a winner's mentality. In short, I like the cut of his jib. I think we could make the pair of them our first choice CBs next season, with Dummett and a new signing. If there were the right senior CB available who could come in and create competition at the back then great but I don't think it would be essential.

Lascelles made on mistake which got Wickham goal side of him but then made one if the best recovery challenges I have ever seen! The boy is a beast and. With mbemba with have the real makings of a partnership at the that Hart. I thought Anita did really well before he came off. It's no secret palace have started to string something resembling form since he has. Returned to the team. Townsend supported him greatly though but that goal oh my word! I also think people aren't giving darlow enough credit for that save. Sure it was a good height. But it was struck with pace.
