Copper on T.V.tonight says drunken fans did contribute to tragedy. Football crowds follow a familiar pattern. 25% like to get there early followed by regular supporters who want to beat the late rush.finally the latecomers many of who are late because they stayed in the pub. Hillsboro followed this pattern. that is why most of the people who died were innocent young people The last minute rush apparently surprised the police who made the disastrous decision to open a gate to ease the pressure. This resulted in many of the latecomers heading for the tunnel at the Lepping lane end> Disaster was certain. There must be hundreds of Liverpool supporters who know this to be the truth who are keeping quiet and who are prepared to let anyone else take ALL the blame. They did contribute to the tragedy but the damage was done by the police decision to open the gates.

    Spot on<ok>
The scousers got one thing right, the people who died were innocent, but the incompetence of the South Yorkshire filth and the ticketless late fans rushing in were responsible for the tragedy

The coppers made the decision to open the gates and we will never know if people would have died at the turnstiles.
The inexcusable thing wasn't the error ( or not) to open the gate but the cover up that followed.

But South Yorkshire Police were owed by Thatcher for the battle of Orgreave and the illegal systematic paramilitary style beatings they gave to striking miners, no way were she and Bernard Ingham going to punish the police... The police had too much dirt to throw and could have brought her down before she ****ed the country.....

    Never forget ACAB.

The cover up is a separate issue. The way the police handled the crowd may have been incompetent or a tragic mistake. But blaming the crowd for breaking the gate down plus instructions given from the top to alter witness statements is criminal and should be treated as such. The south Yorkshire police seem to have acted without public responsibility since Thatcher turned a blind eye to misbehavior since the miners strike.

They were carrying out thatcher and the home office orders in putting the miners down.

You can't pick your family and I am ashamed to say the brother in law is an ex copper that gained hugely from overtime during the strike. In about 1987 I went to an event at the police social club where one of the ****s was telling the tale of waving a wad of banknotes in the face of striking miners and their wives. I walked over and laid him out with a snooker cue. Took four of the twats to drag me off.....

Refused to apologise and told them to charge me if they wanted the story told in court. Solicitor who saw and heard it all told them he would be a witness as to what caused it. :emoticon-0148-yes:

I know it's hard to believe but I used to be argumentative.
