Video: Hall’s first QPR goal and Ingram’s fine saves against Reading Grant Hall scores his first goal for QPR and keeper Matt Ingram impresses on his home debut as Rangers draw 1-1 with Reading at Loftus Road.
Matt Ingram certainly looks the part at this level and I believe that for the remaining matches it should be his jersey to lose back to Smithies (assuming he is fit - not sure why his recent absences?), as so far it would appear that he hasn't put a foot wrong. Ingram made his home debut against the Royals, and pulled off a string of fine saves including a fantastic one-handed tip around the post from an Oliver Norwood free-kick that preserved a point. Have a look at our still video above, as well as filmed action below. The man wishing him well is the keeper he displaced, although Ingram's chances of keeping the gloves for the Bank Holiday Monday trip to Burnley is debatable. Even so, he was not only pleased to get his home chance - but the text as well. He said: “The Rangers fans were brilliant and right behind me from the off. “Goalies stick together, and I got a text from Alex saying ‘good luck’ and Greeny (Robert Green) has been good to learn off as well: it’s the goalies union and we’re all good mates.” Ingram was a January transfer from League Two Wycombe and admitted he was glad to have made the transition gradually before getting his chance at Cardiff last week to boast a clean sheet first time out. He added: “I’ve been here three months, and discovered Championship pace is sharper and in training. Luckily, I wasn’t thrown straight in, but I'm up to speed now.” http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/qpr-keeper-matt-ingram-reveals-11238582
If there are any positives to be taken from this shabby mess of a season then amongst them has to be the emergence of two very fine and promising young goalkeepers. Let's hope that we keep them happy and at this club (and that we can put a decent back four in front of them next season).
