Cow's milk. Most people lose the lactase enzyme once they have stopped taking breast milk. Apparently this has been the case since the domestication of cattle 10,000 years ago or so. It's even worse in Japanese people, only around 20% of adults can digest milk.
So, what you're saying is, we'd be better off drinking water. Mediterranean kids still drink watered down wine, as far as I remember. Do they suffer higher percentages of liver problems? Ah... maybe.
Well, I have a small confession here. 1976, 40 years ago I was 6 years old, and didn't really follow football. I played it with my mates, but I didn't know anything about it. The good news was that this was the first FA Cup final that I watched (confirmed by my father). However, this was because I remember my dad getting me to come in and watch it as it was our 'local' team. I asked my dad who he wanted to win - he said "The team in yellow of course!". "Well, I want the reds to win then!" I said. I watched the whole game, got thrown off my dad's lap when Stokes scored. And I cried. Not like other Saints fans, but because my dad was right and his yellow team won, my red team didn't. That is why we so need to win the cup again. I want to cry again, but be happy this time I have been a Saints fan since then though. I remember going to school on the Monday and we were all singing OWTSGMI all day. I didn't dare tell my friends the above story...
Watched the game on TV and leapt around the living-room like crazy when Bobby Stokes scored. Like the rest, I had tears of joy in my eyes. PS: A few years ago Radio 4 produced a radio drama from a police and fan perspective (fan celebrations, police a little bit concerned) I have no idea of the title but someone here may recall it.
Can't recall that, but I do have a BBC Radio drama about the trials and tribulations of a football referee. That's not bad. It's called, wait for it... Referee.
Good to celebrate this cup win, but wouldn't it be nice to have so many that we didn't make a fuss about a win. #sigh Scrub that....that would make us United.
To celebrate the great day this Thursday, myself and a few mates are off to a watering hole in Shirley to listen to Lawrie Mac, Nick Holmes, Hugh Fisher, Jimmy Steele and comedian Mike Osman recall the events of the day. Looking forward to it, should be a good night?
In 1976 I had been supporting Saints for 8 years. Found a photograph and story in the Daily Mail about a family in Southampton who met a pensioner off the ferry from the I O W who was the president of the Saints supporters club there. Realised he was my grandad who I hadn't met since I was about a year old. Watched the match on TV. Very stressful. About a week later my brother in law said he'd had a ticket but didn't go as he supported Sunderland! Didn't think I'd be interested. Mixed memories.
Lucky bugger. I also found out today that there is an event at the Mayflower on Sunday evening after the match to celebrate the game. I believe tickets still available.
And Peachie. David Peach was a great LB. Also another ultra reliable Saints penalty taker. Don't think he missed one. Great little series this.
We are so used to having videos of matches right down the leagues now, that it seems strange to only have a couple of B&W pictures to commemorate a game.
I wonder if you told a Saints fan in 1976 that in 40 years you would be able watch a u21 team game live on your phone in Moscow. they would believe you? I know the Quarter final & Semi are filmed. See what they have to say about that free kick
I'm looking forward to the feature film's release. I assume it'll be mostly about the final, with these early round snippets in front, and a round up of the celebrations at the end. It's about time such a thing was put together, though, and well done to the club for recognising the need.
Ha ha Archers I wish, get giddy just looking up there now,be bloody funny if someone did though, someone younger maybe someone who still lives there maybe? Calling Tom (i've always liked refs mate-honest).
Should become an annual event to raise money for the Saints Foundation. I can just see Ralph whirling his scarf like Channon's windmill prior to launching it.
