This wasnt MIDTERMs intended comeback race, that was abandoned and he was worryingly weak in the market before the abandonment.
The vibes havent exactly been strong for Midterm, they keep reminding everyone hes only won a maiden and hes not the best work horse. Despite that hes been backed form 12s into 8s for the Derby, and will probably be half that if he wins today. It was difficult to take 12/1, its harder to take 8/1, the top two in the betting for the Debry are both ridiculous prices but as Ive said all along, it looks a race for a maiden winner this year. He has to win comfortably today or they can forget about the Derby.
What a nice animal that Midterm is, loved the way he travelled and the runner up is no mug, id say thats the closest hell get to Midterm tho, no contest next time.
Boris any Stoute horse that is good enough to win on debut and then on reappearance is likely to be a very good tool. He'll come on a tonne for it and for better ground. Highly, highly promising. I'd maybe have one reservation about a mile and a half like his mom (she preferred a mile and a quarter) but he will be a top table middle distance performer regardless. Good to see Stoute heading to a Derby with a live one.
Just won the Derrinstown, 9/1 this morning, left first run in a bog well behind and around 14/1 now for the Derby, dont think he is in the same class as Midterm but should be a decent horse for the season.
Boris, do you see any potential in Roger Varians Choreographer? I was taken by his debut where he was quite keen at Windsor but came through on the bridle to dispute before winning 2L going away hand and heels. Looked like he'd come on a tonne for that. Massive step up in the Dante but if he could run nicely and place, his price might half for the Derby. I've taken some 50/1 that this son of Sea The Stars can become the first Derby winner sired by the great horse himself. Looked a lovely prospect.
Definitely, I backed Stoutes Sir George Somers in that race and I dont think it was a bad maiden for the track, he ran a nice race on debut, as did Pointel, and Bunbury looks interesting for handicaps, Rex Bell and Magnum had placed in decent Newbury maidens last season behind Midterm and Algometer but Choreographer was different class on the day. He was well placed in a slowly run race and he will have to settle better up in class but I can see why they are taking a shot with him, not sure he wants 1m4 at the this stage, but whatever happens in the Dante he should be a decent horse.
Cheers Boris- agreed that the concern is whether he can learn fast but I should think a better pace will help him massively in a Dante/Derby so we will see. Hoping for him to shape well tomorrow and I'd be delighted with a running on 2nd behind Midterm to book his place- one can dream!
I backed one horse ante post from your list Boris and it was So Di Mar with Paddy's at 33/1 on the 25th March. It's only for a tenner each way but if she turns a profit I'll give the winnings to the Injured Jockey Fund. Keep up the excellent work.
I think she was the only bet I outright advised Bob, ive got her in a double with Midterm as well so hoping he can do the business tomorrow. Its hard to to see So Mi Dar being out of the places now, her and Minding look a class above and I favour So Mi Dar at the trip, so hope she gets you the profit.
bad news ANDASTRA "She has had a problem and sadly won't make any of the Oaks Trials. I hope to have her ready mid Season." if he is going to have an Oaks runner its probably September Stars, she is entered in the Newbury trial which looks like it could be a hot renewal with Beautiful Morning, Fadillah, Chastushka, Southern Stars, and Last Tango Inparis, wont be surprised if this race produces the 3rd in the betting for the Oaks.
