I see there was yet another person killed themselves this afternoon by jumping from the bridge..This is getting a very regular occurrence these days, and it is my opinion that the barriers need to be made far harder to climb over..
I don't think that would work mate. If somebody want's to top themselves there's always a way. The Causey Arch is famous for it. The Erskine Bridge at Clydebank, you'd be dead before you hit the watter. Barriers don't seem to make any difference.
My point is that this location is fast becoming notorious, and should at least be made more difficult to climb over which might just give some the time to have a rethink..Also the footpath areas below the bridge are often busy and one of these days someone below is going to get killed too.
Maybe some type of netting could be utilised to catch or deter the jumpers - a sad state of affairs anyway you look at it
I have thought of netting, but this might attract the idiots jumping for fun.. My idea would be to make the current fence higher and curved spikes to make it difficult to climb over..
We drove past and saw the bloke about 4-15 pm. the left hand of the bridge was blocked by fire engines, ambulances etc.
I saw someone jump off the other week but he survived as he went into the water. I also saw someone jump off last year but they hit the concrete 90 feet below..
Its always been a jumpers spot. That and Marsden. Dont think you can stop it. They will only go elsewhere.
Its always been a jumpers spot. That and Marsden. Dont think you can stop it. They will only go elsewhere.
Not on the present scale though..It is now almost a daily occurrence that someone is over the ledge threatening to jump..
I watched someone jump off the Tyne Bridge into the river, the fire brigade pulled him out and took him too hospital etc etc. The next couple of days he jumped again but this time onto the concrete, must have had some real **** to deal with or some nasty demons.
that is very unusual.. By all accounts it is very rare that someone who survives a high fall repeats their act..
We were up for a stag do from Farnborough, about 8 of us saw him falling in from about half way down, huge noise as he hit the water...****in ouch!! Loads of other people either saw or heard it as there was quite a gathering, sad i know. Anyway, watched him being pulled out by the brigade. A few days later when i was back home (F'boro) my old dear rang to tell me that he had jumped again as i had mentioned what we had seen. Like i said, he must have had some demons he couldn't get rid of, poor cnut.
At least they're selfless, jumping off a bridge, I'd much rather people do that than jump in front of trains and ruin some other poor ****er's life (the train driver for example). It's a daily occurrence on the Tube, apparently Tube drivers just expect it to happen now and have it in the terms of their contract.
"Please, if you're going to jump off the bridge, make sure to avoid rowers, canoeists, joggers and dog walkers" Insensitive suicide signs. There's a business idea.
"Please overdose quietly, somewhere rural, away from all hospitals so we don't have to spend thousands of pounds easing your pain for your final few hours, before your inevitable death".
