Halmosi is actually still playing in the Hungarian top flight at the age of 36, he's now been Szombathelyi Haladás since leaving us in 2011 (though he hasn't actually played in 2016).
I know I've mention Nick so you arent able to be rational. But "didnt need him" err Pearson sigend all those players on loan cos he took one look at Mcshane and thought **** that we need a decent cenner half. He came back at the Xmas for a supposed clean slate with Nick and was ****ed off back on loan again. So Steve Bruce gave him a proper clean slate and turned him into a cult hero.
I remember when Mick Hartford ran rings around us playing for Lincoln in the League Cup, 5-0 at their place and 4-1 at ours and I'm sure he scored about five of them. We never signed him though.
Then released him. He's about to get banned for scrapping with one of his own teammates, which is unlikely to help his team much.
I assume you cant bring yourself to agree with me. So make a pointless post. Pearson and Barmby messed him about and wouldnt give him a chance. Bruce did. He was then released as we needed to make cut backs and he was surplus and not as good as what we had in. The End.
I just never rated him, he was a committed but limited footballer and I don't think we should have given him a new deal in 2013, never mind kept him beyond 2015.
Saw Ryan Williams at the cup semi at Wembley he was with his woman . They were not sporting colours but as he was born not far from Sheffield I expect he was there to support the vermin .
We seemed to sign a conveyor belt of crap between 1990 and 2000 with the odd exception . Most of the players that have been condemned above are far better .
We weren't talking about the worst players, we were discussing worst attitude. But if you want to do that Tony Brien is the worst player I ever saw in a City shirt, with honourable mention to John French, Steve Hawes and David Jones.
He just didn't give a ****. I've never seen a defender with such little fight. He would routinely be beaten in the air by people the size of Jermaine Defoe. You get little wingers and strikers who don't get stuck in but Gardner was a centre half! It was a bizarre time when he was playing regularly for us. Sonko may have been donkey but he tried and he ended up having a good run at the end of the season after months on the naughty step. I think Mouyokolo was similar in that respect that he didn't play for ages and then when he got a chance he was good. When Nigel Pearson came in he got shut of Gardner and replaced him with the excellent Anthony Gerrard. I liked him from then.
I agree about Gardner's lack of fight, but I believe he was constantly guarding his injury. The truth is he just wasn't fit to play but we wanted him to be, as his form before injury really was very good. Another injured player we brought in.
Does anyone remember Nick Deacy, 1980ish, or am I showing my age now! I seem to remember he was brought in as a CF, but was not very good at it, and ended up being played as a defender, where he was marginally better. I remember these times well, as I was taken along to City, by my older step brother and his friends, as a condition of them borrowing my step father's car, full with fuel, for away games, but they had to take me also! Nick Deacy was not popular amongst the City fans, and I used to wind my brother/friends up by being the only one cheering for ND, mind you he did have big chunky oiled thighs! Happy Days.
Bought by Mike Smith for a club record £100,000 plus, big signing at the time when £100k was considered a lot of money. Welsh International with 1 cap if I remember correctly but was playing in Holland when we signed him. He was bought as a centre forward but finished up at centre half were he was more useful. Not a prolific goal scorer but he did score one beaut v Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup at Boothferry Park. Donny, managed by Billy Bremner with a big following behind them battered us for 89 mins. We managed one chance and Deacy ran from the half way line and slotted home the only goal of the game. They were happy days.
Deacy also scored a second half equalizer for us against Grimsby at their place in front of us in a 1 - 1 draw. They went up to what is now the championship that season and we narrowly escaped relegation to what was Division 4 but that was a great point
It was a 3rd round match , we lost at Spurs in the 4 th round , and Donny had loads in the East stand that day . As you say we got battered and it seemed like they were camped in our half , we scored a breakaway goal at the north stand end .
A full house at Blunder Park , think it was Easter Monday 1980 , and we had great support that day . I think we should have played them on New year's day but it was frozen off . We had played them at home only a few weeks earlier another draw 2 each if me memory is good enough .
disagree about the passion, Bruce is always first in to any bother even when there isn't bother happening, he makes some.
