According to the mirror Liverpool are the front runners of a host of premier clubs looking to sign 'Ipswich wonder kid Dozell' He can't break into MM first team Just about sums it all up really
I always take tabloid gossip with a lorry load of salt, but if they can get away with £1.5m compensation, then I don't blame them for their interest. His dad seems to be fighting our corner and I hope Andre has a sensible head on his shoulders, but Liverpool are one of the few 'top Premier League clubs' where youth is given a chance to develop. I don't really blame McCarthy for this. The lad is 16, and while he has potential, he may be a little too raw to throw in the deep end straight away. No, the fault here will lay with the board for letting another talented youngster leave the club for peanuts.
You'll get that when any young British talent is talked about - all the big guns start flexing their muscles. We had that last year with Bishop I recall, can't remember which club, may have been the Yids. Just goes to show that we can still produce the odd glimmer of hope for the future. Judging by the look of him though, I doubt he's ready for the step up to the first team, he looks tiny, bless him.
Please edit your last post Stretchy. I fail to get disappointed with any news coming out of Portman Road at the moment(if it doesn't involve MM leaving!)
Mick's gone on record in saying " if and when we cannot make play offs " certain players WILL get their chance - so lets see if he's as good as his word on this first. Sometimes when his backs against the wall ala Derby away with Bishop Mick does chuck people in. I have a feeling the academy is starting to produce again - Keane getting rid of Klug was damned intelligent.
The point I was clumsily tying to make is , if other scouts see the potential in him MM should give the lad a half hour here and there, regardless of his age, this would be a valuable experience for the lad and also would demonstrate to him (and the fans) that there is a future for him here Or maybe MM can't see that far ahead These are the type of lads we should treasure and give them every opportunity to shine. After all there have been other players who have made their first team debuts in the premier who were of the same age bracket So for me age is not an issue
I agree with yorkie, if we want to keep hold of our talented young players then we should give them some game time when appropriate.
Why would you want to play in our 1st team atm, the academy have got all the youth teams playing some real good stuff, nice quick passing through the lines, I have been up there many times this season, (more than I have been to PR) I have yet to see a Town keeper kick the ball from his hands.! The gash that is being served up by MM is a million miles from what Klug & the Youth managers have got our boys playing up at the academy, maybe MM should spend more time up there and pick up a few pointers.
I have a couple of issues with this... Firstly, I doubt any club is actually seriously watching young Andre with a view of signing him. There will no doubt be a few that a keeping on eye on his progress (natural for an international... particularly when that player isn't from one of the 'elite') but I certainly can't see anyone trying to sign him before he has played half a dozen matches of competitive senior football. Therefore we shouldn't really be worried by these stories. In fact it shows that we are doing something right.. Secondly, how many people have seen the lad play? I have seen many posts (on TWTD mainly) saying to throw him into the team.. Playing well in the Under 21's to transitioning into the relentless championship is not straightforward. In fact throwing someone in too early can often cause them to regress (there are plenty of examples close to home.. but ironically forgotten their names). Dozzell is progressing along the pathway at a steady rate, fast tracking him would be a mistake and I think Mick is doing a good job in managing this situation as playing for the U21s is more beneficial for him right now. He has a potential 20 year professional career ahead of him, we shouldn't be in such a hurry to see players make their mark before they have developed
It's a rumour and clubs are rightly linked with him if he's any good - that's a promising start for me. He does appear close to the first team, maybe get a chance when our seasons dead and burried. If not, I expect him to be a blue and tour this summer / be in the 22 next season. Out of the young lads, Dozzell / Kenlock / Clarke and McDonnell are the four I think COULD make it next season. Unsure about the future for Emmanuel / Yowerth.....
Dozzell-maybe a game here and there. Kenlock-maybe a cup game McDonnell-same as Dozza Clarke-Bench/loan Yorwerth-Bench/loan Ronaldo Jones- please make it great name.
I think this completely puts forward the argument for playing good football on the floor. If direct hoof football and grinding results out is our style of play why don't we get the youngsters to play like that?
