it appears that our £12 million pound signing has an £8 million pound release clause in his contract if Newcastle are relegated.
He has not indicated he would want to go, but £8 million must be a price that will tempt other PL clubs to think about a bid for him.
According to the gossip Shelvey has indicated he will stay.
The way things are right now, there are not many l would want to stay, but Townsend would probably be one of the few.

I like Andros. I can see him and a few others hanging around till January to see if we are looking good to come back up.

Someone ****ed up the negotiations if that's true. Surely you put the clause at the same price you got him for (or even a couple mil more) so that you at least get your money back?

If true as you say, it just smacks of desperation yet again. Agreeing to things that make no sense in order to push the transfer through, whilst crossing your fingers that such clauses are never know or activated.
The Doumbia 10 game must purchase clause is yet another reported example.
As you say Biscan, someone has fooked up royally and we all know who, don't we.

Trouble is its probably the players agent that negotiates the release clause and the last thing they want is their player being stuck with a Championship club because its too high. It was probably a clause they insisted on and as we were certain these players would keep us up we didnt push it!

    I'm beyond caring.
Whoever wants to go can **** off.
Those who jump ship will be part of the problem so who cares.

Very unlikely. We probably paid over the odds for him at £12m, and another team is unlikley to pay that, the whole point of the clause is to allow him a likely escape if we go doubt, same price we paid or higher would be very off putting to most clubs and he'd be stuck with us. If you sign any half decent player when you're in a relegation battle, there's almost always a clause that means you'll lose them if you go down - i.e. Demba Ba at West Ham and Loic Remy at QPR.

If Newcastle go down even without a clause they would accept £8 million for him anyway, unless Townsend wanted to stay.

I can't see the likes of Shelvey, Townsend, Janmaat, Sissoko, Tiote or any of them with international ambitions wanting to stay. They would basically be writing off 12 months of any international hopes. You are pretty much forgotten after that.

I'd quite like to keep Shelvey and Townsend. I think we could make use of them in the Championship and if we made it back up. Both have tried since being here.

I don't get upset with all this clause stuff. Its part and parcel of the game now.

Hardly a surprise if it's true. You aren't going to get many decent players wanting to sign in January for a club fighting relegation without them insisting on a release clause if they do go down.

Townsend is a very good player, I wish we had him in our team. Will he stay when yous go down? I doubt it, he'll be off, maybe to Boro. As far as the premier league goes, we are both ****ed

Didn't Jonas go to the World Cup on the back of our Championship season as Maradona's supposed third name on the Argentina team sheet?!?

And what a right back he was for them too. To be fair Maradona is almost certainly insane.

He did indeed but I'm not sure what the point is. One guy who is a few sandwiches short of picnic being willing to do what other managers don't, unless they have limited options, does not really make my statement any less true. I could give you a far lengthier list of players who jump ship.

The reality is if the option is there these guys will leave. We even saw it last time with the likes of Bassong, they don't want to hinder their career (money earning potential). Whether anyone will want them...

I think it'll be a real good opportunity for Armstrong and mitrovic to gel. I doubt mitrovic will go. Still young. A season in the championship will be good for him

It's likely that players are going to want to go if they can get a contract elsewhere which pays at least as much. I think we may see more players go than the last time we were relegated simply because the TV payments are going up by so much, so there will be plenty of clubs with money to spend and the ability to match/beat the wages we offer. I doubt Mr Ashley will take any **** on the selling prices though - unless they have release clauses they won't be getting flogged off for buttons.

    It's absolutely laughable!

The players are actually threatening to leave? The vast majority of them can **** off with my blessing.

    Spineless tossers.
