Newcastle v. Swansea City Premier League Saturday, 16 April 15:00 St James' Park, Newcastle upon Tyne Following their first ever Premier League victory over (deposed) champions Chelsea, the Swans travel to St. James' Park to play relegation threatened Newcastle, whose poor form continued with a 3-1 reverse against Southampton in their previous game. The Swans will come face to face with old boy Jonjo Shelvey who was sold in the January window for £12m. It appears that the Swans decision to sell Shelvey has been more than vindicated - not only selling at a profit but also seeing the team produce a string of impressive results, with a rejuvenated Gylfi to the fore. In last season's corresponding fixture, Ayoze Perez gave the hosts the lead after Jordi Amat's mistake but John Carver's team conceded in first-half stoppage time when Nelson Oliveira headed in from a corner. They went further behind after strikes from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jack Cork. Siem de Jong scored after a long injury lay-off but the defeat marked Newcastle's worst top-flight run since 1977. A sign of things to come this season? With the Swans now surely safe having reached 40 points with 5 games to go, I expect that the shackles are well and truly off and that a repeat of last season's victory will be secured. 1-3 to the Swans!
Bring it on, we are now 2nd in the Premier league form table, and they have the worst back line in the league...............
I'll be there. The bus left Swansea five minutes ago and should get to St James' by midday next Saturday. Is it north of Scotland?
Barrow and Monty on the wings with Palo up front and throw the kitchen sink at them. They are a shambles and they will crumble as their fans get on their backs. Pick the right team and we'll batter them. 3-0 victory P.S. Great thread as usual Taff
2-0 swans win team likely to play Fabianski Rangel, Fernández, Ash, Taylor Fer, Cork Ayew, Siggy, Montero Paloschi Team I'd like to see start Barrow for Ayew Attack with relentless pace then when they run out of puff like montero today bring Ayew on. Ayew is decent at tracking back and most probably be better coming on at 60 mins or so
If Guidolin's penny has dropped we can win it. We certainly have the players, and although Newcastle have players that can hurt you they're not playing as a team. I must be catching some of the Guido fairy dust you've all been spreading so I'll go with the flow 0-2 to the Swans. Siggy and Montero to star again.
Please batter them. While 18th would be bad enough I really don't want to see Newcastle in with a chance of leap-frogging us and putting us 19th
We have in the last few seasons done well there. I think Bentitez will get a response, but hope the crowd get on their backs and that could be of benefit to us. I have a feeling we start a very similar team to Saturday. I just hope we don't make wholesale changes as this could be a disservice to the likes of Norwich and Sunderland. I think we will get of to a slow start and end up with a 2-2. by the way those of you predicting 3-0 we haven't scored 3 since April 2015 and that was a 3-2 win against Newcastle away.
We always do well against Newcastle up there - big pitch usually does us good. I went to the last 2 wins up there but won't be going this time - hope the good luck charm effect isn't reversed as a result I think the team picks itself (the same 11 vs Chelsea), and if we go with that we'll come away with a comfortable 2-0. Possibly Newcastle will snatch a late consolation.
if I had my way , Siggy sits for this one . I don't want him anywhere near Shelvey . I predict Shelvey will attempt to injure somebody by the time this one is over but will be aiming for Siggy if given the opportunity . Just my opinion
I can see Shelvey seeing red - especially if we either take the lead or continue to frustrate them...
He will be seeing red IMO , and not a card . I think he holds a grudge, especially at Siggy and they will occupy the same area all game if they both play .... Sits imo
