Karl Henry happy to be unappreciated in his role as QPR's destroyer of worlds

Adam Reach, in action for Preston North End, is challenged by Karl Henry of QPR

Karl Henry is more than happy to see his performances go under the radar at QPR as the midfielder insists he will not change his attitude towards the game.
The 33-year-old is content to sit in the holding midfield position and break up attacks, before giving the ball to his team-mates to create the goals.
And he has no intention to change the way he plays, vowing to give 100 per cent each day in training.
Henry said: “I have a role and it’s not changed over the years. I’m a ball winning midfielder. I don’t score goals, I don’t create goals, I don’t take people on. Apart from that I’m great.
“I play my game and sometimes it’s appreciated and sometimes it isn’t. The important thing for me is to keep the ball and give it to my team-mates to score goals.
“If it’s seen and appreciated then great. I’m 33 now and I’ve been in football for a long time. I give my best every single week.

“I will run myself into the ground in training and in games. If I’m picked, great, and if not, I’ll work hard. It’s nicer when you’re coming off after you’ve done okay and your team has won as well.”
Henry’s contract at Loftus Road expires in the summer and, at the time of writing, he has yet to be told what his future holds.
However, from what the combative midfielder has seen over the past few weeks under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the midfielder believes QPR will have a good season under the Dutchman, whether he is at the club or not.
He added: “I’ve not had any word from the club. I’m sure I’ll knock on the door at some stage.
“My contract is up and, if they want me, I’d love to be a part of things. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes and what they want to do.”

He added: “Fingers crossed I can be here next year. If not, I think the club will have a great chance next season.
“I don’t want to put pressure on the manager, but I think the way things are going, to come in halfway through the season is tough. With a good pre-season behind him and players he’s added, I can see next season being a really good one.”
QPR face Charlton tomorrow (Saturday) and will be looking to build on their 3-0 west London derby win over Brentford, which ended a run of 17 capital clashes without a win.
Henry said: “We want to finish the season strongly and there are a lot of players who have their own situations.
“Players are on loan going back. Every player wants to finish the season in the team and winning games. If we can make it back-to-back derby wins it’d be fantastic.”

With all due respect, he does that because he's totally incapable of anything vaguely creative. His form has picked up in the last six weeks or so but surely we can replace his wages with someone better and younger.

I admire his attitude and the way he dealt with the pressure when the crowd was on his back.
Having said that, I do agree with Watford that we could (probably) get better value for money.

I thought he was excellent against Charlton. He was everywhere and got in the way of very many of Charlton's moves. I would have given him MOTM. I can think of one poor pass in the whole game. Hard working and does the job he was asked to do. Good luck to him.
