Can any of you armchair manager geeks specify a typical or acceptable shots/shots on targets ratio?
    50%?
    75%?

Amazingly we are the favourites to go up by the play-offs.

No, I'm not a betting guy.
But I have a lot of respect for the bookmakers opinions. I'm too biased.

I agreed with OLM right after he'd posted it, but having thought about it would agree with this now. The front 6 we finished with were good, but I'd have Curtis over Bruce and arguably Dave for Elmo.

For what we witnessed yesterday, firstly, credit to SB on 3 counts, he started with the team that largely most of us wanted, albeit the first player I would have dropped would have been Diame and not Davies, his subs worked with Aluko and Diamonde, and credit for fronting up at interview afterwards, he sounded like a broken man, I almost felt sorry for him.

On paper, man for man, the quality of our individual players compared to theirs, no match, so when they step onto the pitch what is going on? If the motivation from SB isn't there, what about their self/team motivation, what more motivation do they need, the prize of playing PL footie and matching pay packets? I wonder if the club use Sports Psychologists, if not think they need to and sharpish, if they already do then they need to bin them and make a change?

When the going gets tough during a match, where is the leader on the pitch, pulling them together and through the difficulties? I mentioned on a previous thread, it used to be Ash, Burnley have Joey Barton, I don't see anyone getting a grip of our team on the pitch and pulling them through, Dawson is like a gentle giant, and it isn't Thudd and Jake, they all seem too nice, respectful and not forceful.

I was trying to point out how short of confidence our players are.you can see the lack of belief throughout the team

You expect it in marshalling the defence, but Greegsy was screaming at the midfielders too for much of the game yesterday. He clearly wasn't impressed with the repeated passes back to the back 3

That's absolutely fair enough but their first goal went straight through his hands (I was sat in line with the flight of the ball and was really surprised it went past him when his hands were pretty much on position to save it).

That's fair too. I wasn't claiming he was brilliant at all and think he's in the wrong position to be captain. It's just a shame that his personality ended up in a goalie rather than a centre half or centre mid, which without conducting extensive research I would say is where most vociferous, push the team forwards sort of captains tend to play

There's no leader in midfield, it's cost us all season. I suspect Livermore feels junior to Huddlestone as a pro and Huddlestone isn't a leader, neither is Diame. Snodgrass shows signs of it at times but hasn't been given any authority, maybe they should look at him next season

unfortunately getting rid of SB would be the easier part of the deal, it`s who would come to our club to replace him that worries me, given the current set of circumstances surrounding our owners desire to sell. I think personally most decent managers will avoid us like the plague until this mess is sorted.

Said it earlier but if we do not go up and Bruce leaves then I think it might be time to change the whole management structure. Forget the all powerful manager with total control. The first appointment should be a Technical Director a savvy business man with knowledge of course of the game but not necessarily a famous former player that can lead the recruitment side of things along with a team that can actually spot decent players that we can afford. We have seen that there are lots of them in the lower leagues, paying someone a million a year to do this (or more) and recruiting players 20-22 years of age with sell on value is a lot better than paying a fortune for less than stellar buys. In addition we should of course hire an aspiring coach to train the team and make team selection decisions. This coach of course would have input to the recruitment effort which again would be a team effort, not a one man show. After all in a work environment we make decisions in this day and age on a consensus basis.
