Reminds me of the young National Service airman character in "The Virgin Soldiers" by Leslie Thomas, which was based on the author's own military service during the Malayan Emergency1948-1960. Sorry, back to Golf, if any of you guys find the winner of this event a big well done. Looks like finding a needle in a haystack to me. Makes the GN look easy.
Smylie Kaufman 300/1 level par for the tournament through 2 today... if he can shoot level par for the rest of today i'd think he'd be a tenth of that price
Surprised no-one's mentioned Justin Rose, loves it round here! Think he could be the one to give Spieth the most to think about.
The golf is all over now, Spieth is proving to be a machine round Augusta. Should have realised he was a good thing looking at his previous course form.
I too would be stunned if Spieth did not win from here. His way of playing and long game means he would need a real concoction of unforced errors and I just don't see it. If we are lucky we might see one or two others keep his lead to a minimum- Dustin Johnson is under for the day and if he could get within 4 or 5 shots going into tomorrow he is the sort of streak player who could add some pressure. As it is though, I can see Spieth winning this by at least 10. And I'm not kidding.
Glimmer of hope for Rory anyway. Hopefully Spiether can drop another couple to bring Days +1 into it too...
Some turnaround. Rory now basically jt fav with Spieth. Huge par putt on the 18th from Spieth showed he's the stones to battle it if need be. Great viewing tomorrow with the 2 young guns head to head in the last group. Incredibly the first time it has happened.
Well at least that makes the 3rd round interesting! It's bought a few people back into play, albeit with outside chances. Will be good to see Rory and Spieth go toe to toe, the first of many perhaps.
Unlikely golf quotes part 1: "Yet again Sergio Garcia shows his bottle by performing consistently over four days"
I think it's Spieths worst nightmare being paired with Mcilroy. The match up everyone has been wanting to see though
Books favouring Rory in the 2 ball I see. Get a feeling we're going to see a very bunched leaderboard by close of play as the wind is meant to pick up later on, so the early starters should be able to make ground. Hopefully Day and Scotty follow my hypothesis
With all the hype and expectation around the leading group i can see it being a massive flop. Both will put eachother under pressure and with the way the weather has been lots of mistakes to be made. Think both could be on for a high-ish score tonight.
I think you both could be right, gonna be massive pressure on both Mcilroy and Spieth playing alongside one another. I know they both come across as humble individuals, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is a huge rivalry there. Rory was supposed to dominate golf like Woods or Nicklaus did, and then Spieth came along, so I think both players will be very concerned about the other out playing them. I do favour Rory in the 2 ball mind, I've watched him play well in groups with Tiger before, and Spieth has been known to play poorly when paired with Rory. And this pairing is likely to be the highest pressure pairing of either of there careers. I'd be suprised if they where both still in the final group on Sunday, would be great for the neutrals if they where though.
Judging by the early starters, theres not too many low rounds to be had today. Think par or maybe even +1 could be a good round today
