If we just want a striker that will run around a lot I can't understand why Lafferty hasn't had a look in. I'm pretty sure he would have scored at least one of those chances last night too.
just watched the highlights and CJ needs to get his eyes tested - he either reacts too early or too late
Yeah, sorry! I think it was desperation because of how much better the "team" looks with him defending from the front. I genuinely believe that. But I've now come to the conclusion his finishing is frankly so bad that we simply cannot have him on the pitch even if it helps the team play well because we need results not performances... No doubt I will change my mind if he bags a few and gets confidence back... but I just don't see it happening
What I find strange is that our strikers are criticized for not making space and scoring goals yet other teams' strikers performing just that task are blamed on our defenders! Talk about having your cake and eating it!
Just thought I'd return to this topic to congratulate you on your win. I noticed your manager dropped Jerome recently and it's coincided with a change in your fortunes. I'd like to see Jerome score the goal that Mbokani did! Superb.
He does seem to be slipping down the 'pecking order' and I don't think he'll get much game time if we stay up this season - if we're relegated however .....
If we keep him maybe the answer is to work on generating more chances - this might not have him nervously snatching at the ones that come his way at the moment!
I think if we go down he'll be invaluable, but if we survive then he'll probably be sold for a reasonable sum to a championship side.
Yes, but only as a squad player (3rd or 4th choice striker) if we stay in the PL and depending on what new strikers we buy in the summer. I would hope that none of our current strikers would be our first choice striker next year in we stay in PL. Yes definitely if we go down. He has a really good attitude & work ethic.
To be fair I'm note sure how much difference dropping Jerome has had. There are much more significant selection factors contributing to our improved form in in both our defence & midfield.
Very true, Canario, for example Tettey's injury lay-off has allowed messrs Howson and O'Neil to form a pretty useful and solid CM partnership. I'd prefer to see Vadis selected ahead of Jarvis, who for me hasn't really delivered what he was brought in to do, but after that result yesterday, no time to start picking faults More of the same next weekend boys, s'il vous plaît!
You really think so? He is not even our top scorer this season, and our top scorer has only scored 4!
Once again "How many of our strikers have scored double figures"! Answer NONE, so I'm saying he's no worse than the rest.
Which is fair - but where did I say anyone else was that much better? The difference with CJ and the others is that he has been at this level before and not shone, whereas the others are still novices in the PL. I have my doubts about Mbokani too if it makes any difference. He is more if an asset to the team I feel but as with CJ is not a goal machine.
Okay but if you're looking for a goal machine, who is that in our current squad! I can't see how Jerome can be blamed for that. Mbokani isn't a goal machine, he missed a couple of sitters yesterday, Naismith isn't going to score many, Bamford looks average.
To be fair both of those have missed easy chances in front of goal over the season just like Jerome. I think to make a reasonably fair assessment you would have to consider minutes played to goal ration and consider other things like roles played (i.e. Jerome often get used to help out defensively) not just goals scored.
Last to hit double figures in the Prem was Holt in 2011/2012 when he scored 10. Morison and Pilks both got 7. In terms of goalscoring chances, Jerome should be in or very near double figures if you consider how many he's missed - some of them (Everton?) easier to score than miss
