Well thank goodness we batted first, that Duckworth/Lewis method is crazy, had it been us batting second, I would be spitting feathers. There HAS to be a fairer way! How about both teams completing their innings even if it's spread over more than one day?
I don't understand the mechanics of how D/L works (even Bill Frindall didn't ) but the biggest tragedy about today are the brilliant but wasted knocks of Buttler and especially de Kock, who was 138 (ish) not out when the heavens opened and despite cramping up, looked set to help take it to the wire. OK, it's the long-awaited start of the 'rainy season' and farmers and landowners are desperate for it to arrive - but why schedule a cricket match at that venue knowing the rains are imminent?
This was originally started for England's tour of South Africa. But as that's long gone, and the #T20 world cup starts tomorrow, I've taken the liberty of adapting and reviving it Here's a link to the official site, with fixtures, etc. http://www.icc-cricket.com/world-t20/fixtures/men And what's dead cool is that most group games start at either 09.30 or 14.00 UK time, so very watchable in this country - without setting the alarms for stupid-o-clock, if it was staged in Australia or New Zealand. There's a 'Tuffers and Vaughan' program on radio5 at 21.30 tonight previewing the competition if anyone is interested. All I can say is good luck England...and bring it on!!
I hope I can watch it from work as they have Foxtel, I don't in Perth so restricted to Australian games :S
The first and third catch on here are just awesome The middle one, Leask of Scotland one is impressive, but he really should have caught it cleanly the first time without the parry. http://www.icc-cricket.com/world-t2...3143/best-catches-from-the-icc-world-t20-2016
Congrats to England, comfortably beating the Kiwis to book a place in Sunday's World Cup T20 final, vs either India or the Windies.
We now have probabl the most exciting cricket team in our history/ The only downside is apart from Root, there is noone that could hang around and play a semi-anchor role and that makes us vulnerable to a collapse. That said, we should give whoever a really good game in the final.
But batting down as far as Willey at number 10 (he often opens for his county in this format!), I don't see too much need in T20 - there's a different squad/team set-up for the 50 over version, in which your point would be much more valid.
I think Buttler is capable of it if needs be, he's obviously more well known for his explosive batting, but he can play a more controlled innings if needs be. Not as well as Root admittedly. Really enjoyed following the England innings yesterday, it felt utterly serene. That's not something that's often applied to England batting performances!
Wow, 'England' and 'serene' used together, in context! I expect normal service will be resumed on Sunday
Been a good World Cup so far, on Saturday I had £20 on England to beat Sri Lanka, not the greatest of odds and a nervous last two overs, but it came in...then had £20 on India to beat the Aussies and Kohli to be the top scoring batsman for India, that worked out nicely...yesterday had £10 on an Engand win and £10 on Root to be the top scoring English batsman, half of that came in... Today I'm on an India win and Kohli to be the top scoring batsman for India (again) Here's hoping...
But the ladies managed to snatch (oops) defeat from the jaws of victory, and against the ball and chain gang at that.
What a final this will be. It will not be pretty but I think a score of 210+ is a must in order to be competitive. The 6 count could be very high
In a way, it slightly devalues the final not having the host nation there in front of their passionate fans, but they were well beaten in a ripper of a match yesterday Must admit, when Chris Gayle was out cheaply to a delicious inswinging yorker, I figured it was all over as a contest. Johnson Charles and Lendl Simmons however, had other ideas Unbelievable to see Simmons walk off 'out' three (3) times, only to be summoned back to the crease for two no-balls, both spotted on review plus the 'catcher' touched the boundary rope with his foot - so as well as not out, it was six runs See all three on this short clip: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/35937518
The Simmons thing was pretty incredible and the worst offender was the spinner over-stepping, that was scandalous. I take your point about the host nation thing but it didn't do us any favours in the Rugby World Cup and it may possibly be becoming more of a burden as the financial pressures mount and the hosts suffer increasingly. I hope we bat second and don't need more than 200 but it will be a lpng 3 1/2 hours or so I think and expect it to be close.
