I wonder why this particular move has so many names when most football terms come from the UK whatever the language. Goal, Foul, Offside, etc. Could it be that we have had so few players with this kind of skill in the UK?
Cheers Spurf. It has given me something to read whilst sitting in Kigali airport in Rwanda awaiting a flight to Amsterdam via Entebbe so if any of the passengers goes into labour with twins I now know how to call a doctor in Ugandan. I must question one bit of info though. Tigrigna is spoken in Eritrea in the highlands not in Ethiopia. Eritrea was annexed by one of the most evil men this world has ever seen, Haili Selassi but has been independent since 1991. Amharic is generally used in Ethiopia but in the north Tigray is spoken and obviously Arabic as well. I can count to ten in Tigrigna but unfortunately, although I often eat berberry spice, I dont know the tigrigna for nutmeg. I will ask the wife when I get home. EDIT I have to apologise, the wife tells me there is a small area in Ethiopia, right on the border with Eritrea that speaks Tigrigna.
It's nice to see that the "England" team have dropped the facade and are now openly using our training ground, too. please log in to view this image I've heard an unsubstantiated rumour that they're going to go the whole hog for the game and play in our colours...
England U19s beat Spain 2-0 in Andalucia to progress to the Euro finals. Josh Onomah opened the scoring after six minutes and Newcastle's Adam Armstrong got the other halfway through the second half. He's currently on loan at Coventry and has scored 19 goals this season. Might be one to watch. Great to see another one of our youngsters doing well in some capacity. Really hope that he pushes on, as he looks like a real talent.
Extremely positive reviews of Harry Winks performance as captain for England U20's. Apparently, the rest of the team were poor but Winks was picked out as representing the only bright spot by a number of people particularly Henry Winter of The Times. Keep it up son! We want you in the first team soon! Henry Winter @henrywinter Mar 27 Rainbow over Keepmoat Stadium. England U20s trailing to Canada. Harry Winks #thfc impressing.
Winks is an intriguing one as we haven't really seen much of him at all - he hasn't even gone out on loans of any significance for us to assess him. And yet, the club recently signed him to a long term contract...so I can only assume that they know something we don't and that this kid is the next in our ever-growing constellation of bright stars.
Even though Rangers will be back in the top tier next season, the SPL nowadays equates to League 1 at best; so I'd say that's a bit underwhelming if true. We are now one of the best teams in the PL. There's no reason why we shouldn't be sending players out on loan to bottom-half teams, or promotion-chasing Championship teams at worst.
It's true, but it's also a shame. I think that we can trust Warburton and have built up a good relationship with him. He develops the youngsters that he brings into his clubs and seems to have an eye for the right fit, for the most part. There's something to be said for that and the crowd aspect of playing for Rangers, but the level is too poor for someone like Winks, for me.
Former England captain Steven Gerrard says national team manager Roy Hodgson should not "prematurely dump established internationals" in favour of 19-year-old Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli. Gee, I wonder which "established international" he doesn't want replaced?
Can this really be true? Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, 24, will be in England's Euro 2016 squad, even though his six-minute substitute appearance on Sunday against Sunderland was the first time he has played this season. (Sun) I guess there is a space with Henderson injured, but how ludicrous to take a player after so little playing time - regardless of their abilities (or lack of them).
England manager Roy Hodgson says he will only pick players who have proved their fitness for the Euro 2016 squad. "I would rather have 23 players who are all fit and ready to go," Hodgson said. "I wouldn't be happy to really take players with us in the hope that they will become fit during the tournament." - article dated 7th November 2015
Oh you can guarantee the Woy definition of "all fit" will blow in the wind between now and the squad naming deadline day.
Wilshere's on the plane if fit, you can guarantee it, just like Rooney will be. It'll no doubt come at the expense of someone like Drinkwater too, who's thoroughly earned a spot in the squad.
