All this clamour for a guy because of his experience but the only tournament he's been any good in was the one when he had no experience.
What's got into you danish? All your post's on this thread are personal attacks on the OP. I can't see any reason for this. What Col has asked in his opening post seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Too subtle? The footballing Oracle has deemed anyone that disagrees with him absurd. Last night's excellent performance confirmed that we have a number of very good young players coming through and Rooney will be under very real pressure to prove his worth at the Euros. As an athlete, I don't think he has aged particularly well but, with his goal-scoring record for England, of course he must go to the Euros. Winning tournaments is very much about the strength of the squad rather than just the first 11 picks. With the wonderfully large number of talented, young players at Hodgson's disposal, Rooney's experience will prove valuable but I just hope the manager doesn't feel obliged to pick his captain. Personally, I lean towards the younger options, those players who last night demonstrated their ability to play a high tempo, pressing game. Last night, too, the number of chances created was unusually high by England standards. We seem to be playing a different game nowadays and I have my doubts about Rooney's ability to fit in with that: high pressing, short/sharp passing, quick breaks. The England of old always seemed to play football as if it were a very boring chess match and Rooney has been part of that era. So, yes, he should go but he's got a lot of work to do to get in the starting eleven.
I think if Rooney makes a full recovery, and finishes the season strong, scoring goals and playing well, then he should go as a squad player and not as first name on the team sheet because of his name. If not then as seen last night we have talented back up. And why is everyone so up themselves on this board lately?
It's not my fault that Danish decided to hijack the thread with his personal vendetta. Oh and good post btw.
Sounds about right to me. Like anyone he has to show he is fit and in form. If he is back near his best I think he should and will be in the squad.
Sorry, Rodney, this is far too sensible to appear on this thread. For one, it really needs to start with "F*** off" and have at least one nonsensical sentence. You need to include a few s and a couple of s as well.
The same thing happens in all English football as soon as a good player comes we make them into superstars ... It's the fickle English fanbase Of course Rooney should go he is still the best player we have in international football . There is no one even close to him and people who say to leave him if he is fit no very little about football
Ok. Can ANYONE please explain just what the **** any of this means? I genuinely don't get it.
Love quizzes Col:- Only thing I can get is Sacha Baron Cohen (Bhorat etc...), Eurotrash with Antoine de Caunes and Jean-Paul Gaultier and produced by Rapido Television and Dafyyd from Little Britain. All comedy (ish) programs. No I give up too
Rooney goes but doesn't start. We have to play the inform players, Kane and Vardy are on fire. Vardy can play on the right of a 3 and his pace will keep any defense honest, not sure about his defense duty if we are under pressure though. Waynes experience may be needed but surely he would be replacing Alli not Vardy or Kane in the team, if he gets to start.
After watching that england team & performance saturday which was as good as i've seen for a long time, he shouldn't be anywhere near it but roy will play him & disrupt it, he has never done it at world cup or euro stage & seems to bottle it, but i would take him only if he's 100% fit anything less no.
I think that's probably right and wouldn't it be criminal if he did so? Alli was awesome against Germany and has the potential to be even better, perhaps the best of his generation. At this stage of his career, we have limited evidence of Alli at international level but what we have seen ranks up there with the very best, whereas Rooney has repeatedly disappointed at major international tournaments.
Yes criminal, keep him in the team now, while he is are on fire, he shows no fear and is extremely positive. We have a good balance, some exciting players, play them.
I'd bring him as a squad player, but only if 100% fit. Looks like Roy wants to bring two sicknotes in welbeck and sturridge anyway, and as said above Vardy as a wide player. Nice to have a choice to be honest.
