I just hope this is true and we rid ourselves of the complete negative, boring football we have to put up with now.

    Hope not.

    1. Never good to go back or certainly for a lot of people.
    2. Other managers know his style and would have us Sussed
    3. He relied on his Chelsea knowledge and the players he knew from his spell there last time, this has gone!
    4. He would jump ship again at the next opportunity
    5. There are others out there.....

I agree Rhod, not a fan of managers returning very rarely works. When he left clubs had already sussed us would rather try someone like de boer.

I heard at the Liberty yesterday that De Boer and Bergkamp were coming.......

Must admit that I find Huw deciding to go for Brendan far more plausible, especially after Huw failing to control Laudrup: can't imagine Huw risking a repeat with another strong-willed Manager who would want no interference.

    1. Why, there are many managers returned to clubs and won trophies and done well after returning to old clubs.
    2. That could be said for every single manager out there, Pullis, Allardyce, Hughes, Wenger, Mourinho. All of those have a particular style and take it everywhere they go. Still haven stopped them doing good jobs in the PL. I don't get this 'they've sussed it' if that was the case we would all have to have a new manager who no one has heard of every year and it doesn't matter what style you play, do it well and better than the team opposition and you will win games.
    3. So he hasn't gained any knowledge since leaving us then.
    4. If a big club comes calling any one would and if you think they wouldn't then you are living in a cocoon.
    5. this is one I do agree with you, there are others out there, doesn't mean they are any better though. We would know what we are getting with Rodgers, unknowns would be a bit of a gamble.

For all that can I say, if we went for a De Boer instead I would not be disappointed as long as we make a change from what we are having to put up with now.

I'm happy with Rodgers returning, he's a very good coach and will get us back on good foundations again. After laudrup we've lost our way totally.

Given the mess we are in right now, we need somebody to restore our footballing identity on and off the pitch.

Yes we know that Brendan will jump again, however, he also needs to restore his reputation after being sacked with Liverpool. He needs to re build is reputation, we need to re build our reputation so it's a perfect fit for me. Hopefully this will also bring Joe home too, as Leon's natural, long term successor.
Very excited for next season already.

The fact is that under Laudrup, Monk and Guidolin, we're mostly all agreed when saying that (in the case of the first two) by the end of their tenures the football was poor and we were glad to see the back of them. Guidolin has come into a poor footballing squad and most likely ensured our survival but is adding nothing to our identity or game plan. Rodgers is the last manager we had where, while we did poorly in our last 10 games under him, we were generally sad to see him go. We've all picked holes in him since then, but the fact remains that he did a very good job for us and his time was cut short by an incredible opportunity that I don't blame him for taking. I'd be interested and excited to see what he could add to our team given that he's much more experienced now with many more new contacts and tactics - one thing is for sure, we'll start to dominate possession again and we'll play with width with him in charge. Sussed or not, with the correct positive tactics, we'll always survive in this league - the day that the football of Monk/Guidolin becomes our bread and butter is the day that we go down without a whimper.

EDIT: Valley, I agree with you completely RE Joe. Be good to see Joe back here - he's looked so classy every time I've watched him this season. Additionally, Rodgers' ability to speak Spanish could help us get the best out of Montero once again.

One thing for sure, BR got sacked because Liverpool lost Sturridge to injury and sold Sterling and Suarez and the 'committee' bought players of a lesser quality. He nearly won the title playing blistering fast, high paced football. With Rodgers back I'm confident our attacking line would look something like (using current players)

    ----------------------Fab-----------------

    Rangel----------Ash---------Fed--------Kingsley

    ----------------Leon------------Cork---------

    --Barrow------------Gylfi------------------Montero/Routs--

    -------------------------Ayew----------------------

I'd love to see this sort of line up for the rest of the season.

Hmm...mixed feelings for me. I liked Rodgers and have even forgiven him for the underhanded way he came in for Allen but I really don't like the bullshit Irish blarney that he drops into occasionally. He's made some piss poor signings at Liverpool as well that they are still regretting, with Coutinho and one or two others being the exception.

However, anything is better that the dross we're watching now. Tie him into a decent contract and it might just work. Allen? Meh. Not sure he's better than what we've got. He can move the ball around and look silky but doesn't actually do much. Rose tinted glasses here for some I think.

Rodgers wouldn't be a bad appointment but I would have preferred de Boer by a country mile.

Fuk Rodgers ...he didn't want the job when Monk was finally axed ...let him find work elsewhere ....besides , we have a manager with a very good group of staff .Having to start all over again in the summer could and probably would be a disaster , a bit of patience will go further than a knee jerk reaction come summer .

We wouldn't be starting over with Rodgers, he'd just be erasing the ****e we've watched the last 3 years.

Disagree. He's played very well for Liverpool when given a chance this season. He is now ready imo to take over from Leon.

You don't know whether he didn't want the job, none of us know what is going on behind the scenes, there may well be contractual issues preventing him from taking the job at that time even if he did want it. As for our current manager, he is just simply not what we need or want, you must be one of a handful of people who actually think he is possibly and I stress possibly the one for us. We are pathetic o the pitch, the one player he brought in who he brought here as he knew he could play to his style, looks no more than a championship player at best and was left out for Gomis, who I am embarrassed to say looked better than him. If we want to remain as a PL side at the end of next season we have to get in a new manager and go back to playing something that resembles football, try and win games and not the pathetic negative dross we have and are being served at the moment.

By the way I am not saying it has to be Rodgers, just not the clown we have in charge at the moment, I cant wait for him to go, then I wont have to watch us park the bus against every side we play, even at home.

I read on the Liverpool board that he had a clause in his settlement that prevented him taking a job before Jan 1st. I've read this morning that he also hoped to land the Chelsea job on an interim basis until the summer and that these are the reasons he didn't/couldn't take over after Monk was sacked.
