According to The Times this morning, the following European citizens would no longer have automatic right to play for us. If we left the EU and wanted them to play for us we would have to appeal. This would affect PVA Borini Kaboul Lens Toivonen M'Vila Mannone Kirchhoff Worth thinking about...
It'd effect every club in the all the leagues - might be a good thing to get shot of all the over paid & over rated prima donnas - make the clubs look for home grown talent
Rodwell, johnson, Graham, Fletcher (born in shrewsbury iirc could be wrong but still British at least) whickham
We wouldn't have Fletcher (pele) his contract is up this season as is Graham's and the vote isn't until June.
All bollocks. Did we or did we not have non uk players playing in the 1st. division before we joined the EU? Was Bert Trautmann English? There would be no significant change.
Cheers comm but you can keep rodwell! Haha I agree when he first arrived Fletcher was better than ndoye is but I bet he's costing a fraction of the wages so he's better value for money, still very poor though
Exactly - all the negativity re Brexit is based on what may happen not what will happen - the current EU format will drastically alter if/ when we leave as it's in a financial mess even with all our financial input - they need us more than we need them - it'll soon implode imo Back to serious football stuff - IF we were unable to play overseas players it would let some of our young guns hit the heights - most other top prem teams would be in a worse positon as their academies are populated with a lot of overseas recruits - MAY lead to £million academy youngster ? But as CF posted - It'll Never Happen
I don't think it would affect that many. We'd have to apply for visas for a few of them but, given their good conduct during previous residency, and the fact that most of them have international caps, we'd probably get the visas with very few problems. Cabral might have given us difficulties with a rape charge pending, but very few others.
No, Times have changed. Visas have always been required of foreign nationals. Examples are the Robledo brothers, George and Alfredo, up at Newcastle who were Chilean. Bert Trautmann would almost certainly have been checked out for a visa extensively, having as a youth been a member of Jungvolk (the forerunner of Hitler Youth) and later a Luftwaffe paratrooper. Some, like Ted Purdon and Don Kitchenbrand (Sunderland) and Bill Perry (blackpool) probably didn't need visas as citizens of the British Empire (South Africa) they already carried British passports as a matter of right - but Commonwealth citizens today do not. Most of the modern non-EU players like e.g. Aguero probably already have visas anyway. We'd have to apply for new visas for people like Borini however, because if we leave, they'll no longer be entitled to automatic entry. But I still don't see a lot of problems for any except e.g. Cabral.
Pretty sure PVA and Borini and Mannone all came through the British youth system so no way in hell would they be denied the right to play in this country.
Fabio Borini has lived in this country since he was 16, came through the British youth system and is married to British woman. There's no way he'll have to aply for anything, he can take duel nationality and qualifies to be a British citizen by quite a few years. Has anyone seen this article?
From what I have read these things will not happen overnight. Should the UK come out of the EU there is speculation that it will take twice as long as the last World War before the UK can finally extricate itself from the apron strings of the EU. There are innumerable intricate contracts effecting football and non-football agreements that will take years to sort out. The legal fraternity are going to have a ball with this mess. I would hazard a guess that there will be a rush for "Dual Citizenship" passports and/or temporary visa's - can you imagine the chaos this is going to cause in the appropriate Government departments. By that time the UK will have been taken over by that minority screaming "Racists" and you will all have to leave and come to Australia.
Not seen the article but by the sound of it there is the element of European automatic right to work/ employment rules a la Bosmann. There would be a lead in/out time for change of status if it came to anything. Article probably written by a mate of Mayor Johnson.
