Some said 'Mutt-rie' but in the end 'Mew- tree' (rhymes with (Operation) Yew-Tree was adopted How the **** did we manage to get relegated to div 4 with a squad containing Norman, Nisbet (till he was transferred), Haigh (England U21s), Gareth Roberts, Keith Edwards, BB McClaren, Marwood (1 England cap) , Big Billy and Sir Les. We should have been challenging for promo to Div 1!!!
Lets hope the club do something before the next home game. Little tribute to Les wishing him well in his fight.
Mine too - it was our 4th in a 4 - 1 win at Boothferry Park. The score was 1 - 1 with about 10 minutes to go and then Brian Marwood sprang their offside trap twice in about 3 minutes to put us 3 - 1 up. Then with about 3 minutes to go, Mutrie picked up the ball in the inside left position, dribbled passed about 4 defenders and then slotted the ball home - cue more wild celebrations on bunkers. We never wanted that 10 - 15 minutes to end - constantly jumping up and down in the days when every goal was greeted with a surge forward and if you were lucky you'd end up back somewhere near where you started after the goal had been celebrated. Very sad to hear the news about Les - best wishes to him and all of his family.
A very good player at that level . Remember the goal above , he turned the Scunny defence inside out to score close in very late on in front of the many City at the game that night . So sad to hear another player is very ill , and it does not sound good .
Still got a scar on my ankle due to jumping up when he scored that goal and taking a lump put of it as I ended up scraping it as I landed sideways on the edge of the rather uneven terracing. Far more enjoyable than the polite applause which greets goals nowadays.
Very sad news indeed. Best wishes to all his family and close friends. He is one of the players I associate with my first few years of supporting City, him and Big Billy were a great strike force, or so it seemed.
