For sure he saw the window. I wonder if that was what made him so moody today, at the end - was it because he'd wanted the whole game, but Ron started him on the bench. Was definitely some obstinate celebrations in there. From Pelle too. Is it a reaction to fans doubting them? Seems ridiculous on here that people can call for them to be shipped out, before hailing them, and worrying they're going to get sold, within the same match! It's micro fandom - conclusions drawn and sweepingly stated in units of 10 minutes! The bigger picture is they are both class players - proven - and we should be working on sorting their heads (particularly Mane's) to get a third season out of them to maintain consistency across Koeman's tenure. Vic too, obviously.
Hell of a win. Was pretty despondent at half time. Absolutely love the comeback, finally got our win over them and it made it even sweeter coming from 2 down. On another note, if we are to keep improving and winning consistently, keeping mane and wanyama happy and in form is the key. Made a massive difference when they came on, no doubt both putting a show in for klopp but who cares. We should tell them mourinho/ zidane/ Enrique are in the ground on alternating weeks!
He played at LB for Saints on several occasions and always gave a good account of himself. Agreed that Mane made him look extremely flat-footed. In a one on one race I think it might be close between Sadio and Clyne though. On getting upto top speed I've never seen anyone accelerate so fast as Mane. He also seems to be able to go from fairly-fast to super-fast really easily. Truly wing-heeled.
I would love to get another season out of them and if we qualify for Europe then a new contract may well turn their heads. Either way - they have to commit to the club heart and soul (well for a year or two more anyway....) Still - I think I blew that option when I suggested I would rather we beat Liverpool than qualify for Europe
Romantically, maybe... But he (and very importantly) his family are really happy here, add to that, any contract extension triggered by hitting playing targets, is not likely to be at a reduced wage (average PL wage is £44,000 per week is about 3 times what you'd earn north of the border). I know what I'd choose...
If mane ONLY tries against the " Big " teams , I think we should cash in , I also think Wanyama may struggle to get the BIG move he craves , given his disciplinary record .
I'd have to disagree, we have a ready made replacement for Big Vic in Romeu, but Mane gives us something very special up front [occasionally].
That performance from Mane yesterday fully justified the cost of my season ticket. And made up for all the times he, and we, had been frustratingly average this season.
The big decisions we have to make this summer are Wanyama and Pelle. Because their contracts are up, they make a good wage, and they are players who if we were to sell them we could get some useful money for. Mane as well, if he wants a move or bigger contract. Those are the high stakes decisions as far as potential exits. The next in line would be Fonte and Davis. We need to bring in an quality AMC and a CB. If Fonte and Davis are okay with fighting for a place and possibly ending up on the bench, then that's fine. They bring more to the club than their contribution on the pitch, and at their age it's not like we will get a mint for them. Plus, you never know if the player we get will pan out or if Fonte or Davis might show they have more left than maybe we think. OTOH, if they feel like they would like to go that's fine as well. They deserve a move to where they are happy, we can probably get a "fair" fee for them, and in all likelihood we will be replacing them sometime in the next two seasons anyway. It can work out for everyone. Gardos, Martina, Yoshida, etc. don't bother me one way or the other. They are not a part of the future "core" of the team. OTOH, they aren't really costing us a lot of money either. Nor would we get that much money for them. As a practical matter, every team is going to carry a bunch of players that really don't get that much playing time, so if RK likes them, and they like it here then no point in spending effort to try and move them. We could have moved Juanmi, but Reed/RK apparently like what they see in him so I will trust them on that. The key really is not that we need to clear out these players, we just need to have everyone in their proper role. If we have a promising youngster ready for more action, than don't let other players stand in their way. But that just means moving them to a bench role or deeper bench role. Doesn't mean we need to get rid of them. If something can be worked out conveniently, great. Otherwise, we have better things to spend our time and resources on.
It disappoints me that so many are writing Gardos off. I for one don't think I have seen enough of him to make that statement. He was back up and never got a decent run in the team last season and this season he's been injured. On the other hand, much as I like Yoshida he can't stop making mistakes, and therefore it may be time for him to move on. He has had plenty of chances.
Wanyama and Pelle's contracts aren't up....they have another season. In the past, such players would be moved on rather than get nothing for them the following season, but we are well enough off to make strategic decisions. Wanyama....he is a moody person, so he either signs another contract or we could move him on. I think it is different with Pelle...he is a good striker....unless we get a stupid offer, I would rather keep him to his contract and let him go on a free. Any goals he could score would be very valuable to us next season. Mane has a couple of years on his contract....should keep him. We aren't the push overs we were...no team in the EPL with all this money sloshing about is.
So has anyone else said it? I ****ing love football! Didn't see the game but was out having a few beers (with a Pool fan too ) Today have enjoyed reading both this thread and then the LFC one Important 3 points before the international break, and on we go to the home of the Champions elect!
Thing about Maya is that he's a rare breed - he's a decent player that uncomplainingly know's he's third choice. Useful to have one or two of them in the squad for emergencies.
Suprised about seeing the 7 player long lists of people to go, @Beefy you'd get rid of Maya, Fonte & Gardos ? That would be a hell of a rebuilding job on our defence! We're never going to strengthen by having Summer after Summer of upheaval imo. I think this is our best bet of a 'quiet' Summer in terms of outs and not having another rebuild job. Seems strange that you would choose this Summer to shift over half our first choice CB's. Also agree with Whiteley that people are being harsh on Gardos. From my memory he had a brilliant game coming on for Toby at OT, and an awful game at Brammal Lane where everyone was awful.
I agree with what you say about writing Gardos off, but I don't think he was only brought in as backup. He was and remains one for the future, and it is not his fault that he has had such bad luck with injuries. Once he finally gets fit we will see how he progresses, but I doubt we'll be getting rid before Ron has had a chance to see how he is doing.
Fonte is captain of our team....there is no way he'd go from an ever present to an unwanted on voyage in one season. He will be around for a few more seasons playing when needed and providing help and transition for the next generation. You don't let go of an experienced team man like Fonte just like that.
