Exactly. Bookies will be laughing their cocks off at all of this. Big pay-outs make them look good and will just make more people put more money on in future thinking it might be them next time. And it'll all be more than offset by the money they'll make on the dead certs being more dead than cert.
There'll probably be an increase in bets on no-hopers by the deluded thinking another Leicester might happen again.
    Fat chance.

Van Gaal: "We have created a lot of chances but they scored the away goal. That was the difference."

Plus, you know, the two other goals we scored.

Anyroads, I was going to do ratings, but I feel poetic instead.

    Fergymandias

    I met a Woolie from a flat-capped land,

Who said: 'Two failed and useless moulders of manure

Lie in the cobbles. Near them, by the stand,

Half drunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And purple conk, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its maker well those menaces read

Which yet survive, stamped on those gutless officials,

The hand that terrorised them and the envelopes that fed,

And on the pedestal these words appear

"My name is Fergymandias, king of 'independent panels'

Look on my works, ye mighty Reds and despair!"

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal toilet, prawnless and bare of European football,

The long and many high diagonals stretch far away.'

And we had more chances than them, too. Could have been four or five away goals, easily.

    Yes mate.

If they do win it, they'll be the biggest outsider in the history of world sport to come in.

Surely someone's done something more amazing. .. some yank with a gimpy leg winning the world series or some ****e...

An amateur winning a major golf tournament. That film with mat Damon and will Smith the mystic gold guru..

Surely an Italian tinkerer, a French no hopers and a non league journeyman can't be the biggest no hopers ever.

    No mate.

It's a fact, there's never been a winner of anything in the history of world sport that's come in at 5000/1

It's an astonishing story, to be fair.
Even if they fall at the last it's still the most amazing turnaround I can remember.

They might have got to 100-1 but no where near the 5000-1.

Too many times have teams been 3 up at ht and throw it away.

Guessing that's where the saying game of 2 halves originates from?

  14. I'd guess they'd have stopped taking bets

This football commentator's cliche refers to games which have a different character in the two halves. The source of the phrase isn't clear. It was in wide use by 1990's when it was listed in a posting in the Usenet newsgroup - rec.sport.soccer. That posting cited a 'soccer dictionary' of 1988/89 as the source

  17. Won't have been 5,000-1 but our odds at the start of the 2004-05 season for winning the CL (considering we still had to qualify too) would have been pretty long.

had a look at a guardian article after the 2015 final and found this

    Liverpool 2 - 3 Milan
Vladimir Smicer scores. Unbelievable! Vladimir Smicer picks up the ball just outside the Milan box and shoots. The ball bounced just in front of Dida and crept in at the right-hand post. The two quid I put on Liverpool to win this match at half-time at 188-1 is looking like a great bet. I need two more before the 90 minutes are up.

was a nice blast from the past read tbh :)
