http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-35828566 Cliff Michelmore has died aged 96. That is a real blast from the past...there will be a generation or two who won't even know him. A great broadcaster who was always there for great events in my youth.
http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/hoe...als-ship-was-not-safe-to-be-at-sea-94324.aspx A report on the ship that grounded off Cowes after listing badly reveals that the cargo weight was incorrect so the ballast was wrong. It was quite a sight off the Island for a very long time. Made an interesting addition to the view off Cowes sea front, but, even stranger, there was one steep road, where it appeared to tower over houses. Quite a talking point on the Island....we are simple folk.
I used to like him. He had such a warm manner and wonderfully warming voice. 96 - good knock sir. RIP
F1 may be back this weekend but much more important, motor racing is back on the Isle of Wight. http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/racers-get-ready-for-ventnor-botanic-garden-speedfest-94306.aspx Vin
As I don't have a Twitter account [but was thinking about it], explain to me what was good before and what is now f*****, please. Always willing to learn something new. Cheers
Twitter has always been good/bad. But you can get a hell of a lot of info out of being on it. What Twitter is slowly doing is changing how you view tweets (messages) on your time line. Instead of doing the time line in order of when people tweet (by time), it is being changed to a system that randomly picks out what it feels you think is important and putting it first.
Thanks Beef. I can see your reasoning now, ie Twitter is f*****. It's taking control from the user and assuming control over output due to data gathered. Don't like that. I see that you can deselect the default setting, but how long will that last. They can't help tinkering in order to make more money selling data.
It also preys on the apathetic or unknowing who will leave the default setting as is, and then they'll find that their data is being sold on, without any agreement. Pretty soon it'll be the case that the stipulation for using the service is that you must allow the data to be gathered. You can see why there is a healthy population of beatnik-style Linux users. They crash through all this data BS. It's why software like Ghostery and Ad Block was written by Linux users. I wouldn't be surprised if there is something written to block data on Twitter and Facebook and still get full function ability. Ghostery blocks that data tracking but renders the programs dead. Suits me fine.
People are so precious. Rooney puts up a nice message about St Patrick's Day but posts a small image of the Ivory Coast flag instead of the Republic of Ireland flag. How dreadful, how could he be so foolish....wait a minute, let's check. Same colours, just in a different order. Wow, massive insult.
