No, not that one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-35811404 I think that they need to examine the tap water at their training ground or something. Can't be good for the club's image, can it?
Frequenting their board made me reach that conclusion many moons ago. They had a Not606 get together recently I hear : please log in to view this image
Graham Rix got 12 months and was out in 6, yet he actually shagged the girl in question. How does Johnson get a much longer sentence for a lesser crime when he's got no previous? He must've really pissed the judge off or something. Comes across as a complete cock though, so **** him. Not literally, if any of his fellow jailbirds are reading this.
He lied for a year causing people to verbally abuse the girl...he cost the tax payer a **** load of money by not pleading guilty until the last minute on 2 charges so they had to gather proof and put in lots of hrs...and he was apparently heard saying "hope this ends soon cos I am bored" and the judge bollocked him cos he was joking with guards while court was in session... The fact that he and or his mates and family spread rumours about the girl lied about her age really went against him...personally I am glad he got that long...I suspect that Rix would have got longer if it had happened today instead of nearly 20 yrs ago.
I have to agree with rcl. He's behaved like the arrogant tosser that he is throughout this whole affair. He obviously thought he could intimidate, or bullshit his way out of it. He was wrong!...
Yeah, you're probably right. Take the piss out of the court and they'll definitely take the piss out of you, if they can. His high profile and the press coverage probably didn't help him, either. I suspect that he'd have got a lot less time if they thought that it wasn't going to be splashed all over the papers. He acted like a twat and deserves what he's getting, but the sentence doesn't seem very consistent with similar recent cases, even.
There is talk that this could be perfect for both Sunderland and Johnson. Should he be out in 3 years (likely outcome) Sunderland will likely be in League 2. He'll be desperate to sign for a club and they will love to have him back as he'll probably excel in that division. Win win situation.
It shouldn't have anything to do with it. I have known of those who have been convicted of man-slaughter getting a far more lenient sentence than Johnson got, in some cases with the jail term being suspended. I think the judge has permitted his consciousness of the fact that the world's media is watching drastically affect his judgement. I mean no disrespect to the girl whom he abused, but it is utterly preposterous!
