Thinking of investing in something decent that the kids can appreciate and not reckon I am some sort of twerp for getting the wrong one. One of those gaming PCs are out of the question but something like an X-Box or Playstation may be the way to go. We've got an old Nintendo Wii but when I suggest to the kids that they should play on it I get the look as though I've told them to entertain themselves with a hoop and a stick. I've asked around and the response has been pretty much 50/50 between the Sony and the Microsoft so what are the pros and cons of each?
ps4 is free internet gaming if you have wifi, xbox you have to pay for xbox points even if you have wifi i think
I have a PS4, so I'm biased. Size-wise, the PS4 is a better design; it's smaller, sleeker, looks better, and the controllers don't take ****ing batteries. PS4 has better games, out right now, and to be released this year. The PS network is also superior to the Xbox Live. Again though, I'm biased. I had a 360 and it broke. Sent it back to Microsoft, got it repaired, and it broke 2 weeks later, so I ****ed Xbox off. Original Xbox also broke after a year or two. Since then I've stuck with Playstation. Whatever you decide though, your kids will still think you're a ****.
You need to be a PSN member, costs 12.99 for 3 months / 130 odd for 12, otherwise you can't play online.
Think xbox is the one for the teenagers. My boy and all his mates have one, he's 14. How old are yours? Have you any daughters?
Fackin rip off merchants. you buy it, pay for your internet, and still have to pay again to play online, rip off
I'm still occasionally playing on my Xbox 360 but I have no interest in online gaming. My nephews are split between Xbox One and PS4. Glad to help.
I paid Microsoft 4 pound a month or something the other day so my son can get 10 hour previews of games before they come out. Thought that was ok as they are usually robbing ****s.
True, online gaming isn't for everyone, but even to get on PS Plus / Xbox Games with Gold, you need to be a member. You can also download free games that are released each month (old PS3 / 360 titles) for free (most are ****e though). I do think online playing is for teenagers who have the time to master the game (FIFA / COD etc), or for pissed-up people like me who like screaming racial abuse at Arabs over the microphone. For everyone else, it's not really a necessity, but I really implore everyone to at least try it once, pissed, because it's pretty good fun screaming about 'sand coons' whilst trying to stab anything that moves.
Aye I've heard a few non PC phrases coming from young Ciaran's bedroom. English bastard being the most common tbf.
Yes I am sure my kids will consider me to be a **** AND a ***** regardless of what I get them, I honestly don't want them hooked up to the 'tinternet all day playing along to Tour of Duty with some grooming peedy weirdos. They get enough of that at home.
Well don't buy membership to PS Plus or Games for Gold. That way they can't play games online, but you'll still need to connect it to the wifi so that the console can download regular updates and patches for games, otherwise it's pointless buying them. That also means they can then get online through the console and no doubt be groomed in online chat rooms by people like Gambol. I guess it really depends on how much you like your kids.
You actually don't need Xbox connected to wifi at all. If a particular game needs a console update the update is always on the game disc and is run the first time you put the game disc into the console. Dunno if the PS needs wifi for updates.
For some games you can play them, start to finish, and not need an internet connection, however the actual console, be it PS4 or Xbox One, will have regular and new updates for the software which you can only download by being connected to the internet. You're right in that some games have their own updates stored on the disc, but loads of games now get released and end up requiring patches to fix small bugs etc that they're lumbered with because they were released too soon, or rushed to make the release date. You also have certain games, like Destiny or Titanfall, that do require internet just to play them. Majority of the big games, especially now, have online multiplayer options, and some (Rainbow Six: Siege) are specifically for online play only, so in my esteeemed, black, and disabled opinion, you're best having your console connected to the wifi. Grove, send me your kids' usernames once you get their console and i can help run them through it with ER
