SSN this morning ran a piece about Michael Owen and how he has said SAF has earmarked him for a big role this summer for Man Utd. I also read last night that Berbatov has declared he is going nowhere either as a move from the champions of England would be a downward move for ANY player.

So, if both Owen and Berbatov are still there and Hernandez and Rooney are still there and then there is Macheda? Where is Danny fitting in?

6th choice is the best he can hope for really and that means maybe 8 or 10 games in the cups and maybe an EPL bench and run out on 3 or 4 occasions. Is that really what a 21 year old lad with a taste for game time really wants? Regardless of whether SAF is happy to keep him there in the 6th choice place, surely the player must realise his career is heading nowhere at Old Trafford, despite them being one of the biggest clubs in the world. If you ain't playing then you're not part of it anyway.

I think the fact we havent gone for any other strikers this summer leaves the door firmly open for a Danny return. It may be touch and go and a last day transfer or season loan deal but I think Bruce is definitely hanging his hat on this one coming off. IMO, we are very short on out and out strikers at the club and with Sess and Gyan probably missing for 4 to 6 weeks in the new year, its a bit scary to be honest going into the season with 2 players who have never kicked an EPL football, a converted midfielder to striker who admittedly has potential in that role and only one top class striker all be it a world star as our forward picks.

Danny and Gyan had a great understanding on the pitch and I think as partnerships go, this one had massive potential and is why Bruce has taken a gamble on his relationship with Man Utd paying off before kick off.

    I hope anyway.

What's clear is that SAF is clearly telling lies by declaring his faith in everybody, and at least two of his strikers are not getting much game time at all this season.

Unfortunately I think that behind the 'big 4', he'll pick Danny as 5th choice above Macheda and Mame Biram Diouf. Which might just mean Danny stays and has a go from the bench/covering Owen's injuries.

I hope we get him, and if Danny is set on staying and trying, I hope we'll try again in January when it's obvious that being 5th/6th choice striker does not equal more than, like you said Cest, 10 games a season.

Again. Benin have not qualified after coming third in their group from which Ivory Coast were the qualifiers. Sessognon will be playing for us !

One plus point (for SAFC anyway) is that Benin are struggling to qualify for the ACN so Sess should hopefully be available.

They are 3rd in their group but with poor points tally and only a few of the runners up actually qualify!

Cest - they play 60 games a season of which welbeck will figure in 15/20 games. He'll be happy with that. I can't see him coming to us.

As I understand it, Bolton have made an official approach for Danny while we have sat back & ignored the situation.

Does that not tell you all you need to no.

In fact, the manager has been quoted in the local press that strikers are not a priority.

Unless SB has had the nod from the red nose scotsman about Wellbeck, which I doubt, then it is foolish to hang on in the hope that we MAY get him. I just wonder about funds, I understand, although I have never seen a definitive source that we have a wage cap of around £40k per week (well above the average salary for most folk for a year). We also have about 4/5 players who are drawing wages but are unlikely to feature in the 1st team much and we need to sell or them to go out on loan.
So I surmise the like of vermin defoe or beanpole are unlikely to be at SoL cos' we will not pay either their wages or what Levy wants as a fee. We have 4ish strikers Gyan, Sess and the two young lads, IMHO if we do not bring in another experienced striker probably from overseas we are making a similar mistake as in Jan when we sold Bent and did not provide cover..that nearly cost us dear.
The players we have brought in undoubtedly are useful, but a striker and a left wing are still and have for months been needed. SB is good at assembling players so lets hope he can also get shot of a few to make room for two more..I am, after two seasons, not a big SB fan anymore..but after all that has gone since Jan on if 'we spoil the ship for a h'penth of tar' I have this gut feeling we will struggle and he will have to go.
We have a tough start, away to 'pool and a home derby..Come on Sir Naill and SB offload the benefit scroungers and bring in some forward talent, you know it makes sense. Of course there are several weeks left of the transfer window so there is time, but it would be good to be hearing rumours about who we may be after..it has all gone quiet

why? just cos there's 6 strikers there, doesn't mean he has to be bottom of the pecking order, given the chance he may force himself into recognition.

why can't he get ahead of the likes of Owen. Even as 4th choice he will still play numerous games, and some pretty high profile ones at that.

Unless Man Utd play with three forwards, there aren't enough minutes in the games they play to accommodate all of them, let alone keep them happy.
Last season Man U played most of their games with two forwards and some with one, in the league the forwards at SAF's disposal played 6150 minutes on the pitch, comprising:

    Berbatov 2208
    Rooney 2225
    Hernandez 1491
    Owen 236

This included the fact that Rooney was injured for part of the season and Hernandez was the new kid on the block and wasn't really involved until the second half of the season. This season Hernandez and Rooney look like being his preferred combination and I expect them, subject to injury, to rattle up some 2500 mins each out of a possible 3420 mins in the league, Berbatov will make up the bulk of the remaining 1820 mins ..................... Owen, some cameo roles and a run out in the Carling, FA cup and early Champs league, Wellbeck can't expect much more than Owen.

Can you really see him forcing his way into this scenario when they will be pushing for trophies on all fronts ................ he could be playing every wek for us!!!

Truthfully? Yes. Think he'll get a chance, ok maybe won't play as often as he would like, but it's down to him to prove himself and force himself into the team. No-one has a divine right, and there's no-one better than old rudolph nose to handle this. When he gets a chance he has to take it.

Just because we want him at SAFC we can't write off his chance of at Man U. After all one of the biggest clubs in the world, if he thinks he has a chance to make it there, why the **** would he come to us, although he enjoyed his time, Man U are his club.
