Rangers took the lead thanks to a wonderful solo goal from Junior Hoilett Hoilett picked up possession in midfield, just past the halfway line, before he decided to carry the ball upfield. Having sidestepped one challenge which took him out to the left hand side, he cut back onto his right foot, before curling a stunner into the far top corner. .
Tricky one for me and was discussed during the game today...on face value I would...but concerned he might be doing an 'Adebayor' and playing for his new contract.
A qualified yes. Some may doubt his motivation, others his confidence levels. And we have been waiting a long time. He can be made a reasonable offer and paid the going rate for a Championship club with ambitions. We'll see soon enough whether he wants to play for us. JFH has made it clear that nobody is indispensable and he is developing the squad sensibly and given a pre-season to plan and re-shape the squad, if he wants him that's good enough for me on the evidence of the last 15 games or so.
Please no. Every time I get to games I struggle to understand why he gets so many chances with us. Regardless of how he's played recently, I just cannot watch him run aimlessly down the sideline for another season. He is painful to watch.
Of course you keep him! JFH has rejuniorated him. Tad too cynical to believe he is simply playing for a new contract though I dare say he's not completely altruistic either.
Hmmmm. I kind of love him but his SWP-esque repeated runs into deadends of three defenders is tiresome. Hard to know where the love ends and the FFS begins!
For **** sake he's had an above average few months compared to the previous 3 years of dross. Offer him the going rate for a Championship winger for a year at best. Lovely goal yesterday, it really was, but I honestly think if I tried to find the top corner from that position as many times as he's tried over the last few years I'd have put one in. Traore suddenly found a bit of form towards the end of his last contract too.
So it's an 18 month deal at £25k p/w. Take it or leave it. From £2m p/a to £1.3m p/a. In this scenario, I think there might be others that would gamble and offer £30k p/w for a 25 year old. The likes of Swansea, etc.
If only we could offer him a 'pay as you play' contract.........think that would be the only way we would see a more consistent Hoilett
If he keeps this form up to the end of the season I would. This season he's finally got his confidence back. I don't believe the end of contract stuff so I'll perform stuff, it's not that easy to turn your form on and off.
I think this is really tough. Feels like he's playing for a contract. If so its a Championship contract, however I think someone else will offer him better - so best to be scouting a replacement now. He has a new baby, so will quite rightly be looking for some security - not sure he will get that from us now. He is fairly predictable in coming inside and Bentford allowed him to and he did what he can do very well. It was a lovely goal. Smarter teams will nullify him. All in all a choice for the manager and board to agree on and move forward.
Agreed.....but will we he stay...I think that is a no-brainer too....No, I don't think he will. As I said elsewhere it is where JFH is going to earn his money. How many of his "stars" will he tie into..."we are a team and we are going to be promoted"... ideology. Over the winter months various people have said they want to go (Luongo, Chery, Gladwin, Angella) a few others have buckled down, but with a guarded attitude (Phillips, Hoillett). In the last month things are coming together and gelling. JFH now needs to cement a bond between the players so that over the summer none are poached (thinking Luongo and Chery here); others sign for us (Angella) and maybe Junior buys in for another season (but cannot see that he will myself). I would let Matty Phillips go to be honest (perfer to have Doughty in the squad) , he has not buckled down in the same way as Hoillet has...and if we could get 4-5 million and his wages of the bill it would be good. I will be very (pleasantly) surprised to see Hoillet here in August
He's often the only time we look like we might attack. He's the only player that seems to have the ability to out pace the opposition. We will rue the day he moves on and is exceptional elsewhere. Given that our various management have failed to get the best from so many players in the last 3 years, seems a shame to me that just as Junior is a regular team player and is hitting form, we might let him go. Better to offer him a decent contract than take a chance with someone else and a transfer fee.
According to Les our wage cap is £20k a week. And as Roller tells us we have already mortgaged against future parachute payments that's about £18k too high. Time for you to go, Junior Grasshopper.
In considering whether to consign one's relationship with a boy to history, one should weigh whether his capacity momentarily to exhilarate sufficiently balances the accumulated days of indifference or of efforts petering into limp disappointment. One should reflect as to what "standards", in the context of one's own current powers of attraction and prevailing mood, it will be practical and apposite to apply. One should not neglect the comforts of an established familiarity in which the young man's foibles are at any rate unhidden and his own education as regards one's needs, wants and appetites is sufficiently advanced for these to be met with such wit and instinct as he possesses. One should, too, weigh the extent to which his known beauty, virility and sheer animal allure might be outshone by such other available princes as might in addition possess the thrill of the unexplored. And then one should ask, what will he charge?
Time to let him go, ideally someone will pay tuppence for his services. Been good this season but poor in previous seasons. I don't think he will take up a new contract even if it is offered.
