I think a lot of the time that's a ball that's aiming for the near post. Before Elmo got **** we did that a lot! It's not just corners either, what was our last goal from a direct free kick? Surely there's been one since Brady at Bolton? I can't think of any more recent than that
When we get a free kick near area or a corner i use it as an opportunity to visit the toilet they are not our forte. Add in spectacular goals
I don't think we, despite all the different managers and players, have managed to take a decent throw in in 20 years.
Too right, & I recently asked this question, what exactly do these players do every day in training ? Does anyone know what time training starts & finishes & what Bruce & his coaching team actually do ? As far as I can see bugger all time is spent on practicing corners or free kicks, as we are woeful at both How much shooting practice do the strikers get ? How much crossing practice do the wingers get? I only hope if we do manage to get promoted that the new owner (its no secret Allam will be well gone with a hefty few million in profit ) says to Brucey, "thanks very much, here's a nice golden handshake , we are getting a new manager in with a new philosophy on how the game should be played, with new training methods & new tactics, who can instill an attacking mentality into the players, which is something you have failed to do" Bruce is an old skool Championship manager at best who clearly does not have the technical nor tactical knowledge to keep Hull City in The Premiership & as much as he's a top bloke, he really needs to be paid off & someone new brought in.
I was talking about both. The same problem was evident in both. That's another thing. Someone on here mentioned watching the players shoot when warming up and how few of the shots are actually on target. I noticed the same thing at least a year ago. Obviously warmups don't matter but it's worrying that the majority of our players are so wasteful in those scenarios.
This is true if you watch pre match sometimes. I watched once and we hit the target about 30% of the time but they just laughed it off.
I believe they should be discussed separately, as the dynamics are different. I agree neither were perfect and both could do with some improvement, as could most teams, but it really was not that bad and if we could replicate that in a Championship game I would be a lot happier. Especially if Bruce stops his tinkering. There was one very BIG problem that eclipsed everything else, our lack of goals, even though we were not short of opportunity or the so-called right players in the right place at the right time. I think they call it a lack of skill - we were shocking. I felt sorry for Jak, he did not deserve that scoreline.
Got to admit I never understand it when we get a corner and everyone claps and cheers because you know were not gonna score
I linger and gawp When the council dig a big hole And I cheer for a corner I don’t know why, they rarely lead to a goal. From Half Man Half Biscuit's last album. Nigel's still got his finger on the football fan's pulse.
I must have been watching a different match to King Chazz because I thought he looked fantastic from dead balls too
He is supposedly a specialist at long distance shooting so his attempt from distance was poor when he could have played in Dave, I thought his dead balls were excellent though. Got to be honest can't remember much of his in the second half as we'd kind of given up the ghost after Meylers aberration and Ramseys failure to net in his own goal
This is a great post re. the training side of it, there are things I see every week with us that I think proper coaching could sort out, like the distance shooting for starters, running off the ball, Robertsons bad positioning and occasional bad decision making. Meyler even fell asleep last night so you wonder if there is complacency that needs to be drilled out of players too. He seems to want to flatter Hernandezes ego ( he can't do it all himself says Bruce) instead of looking at the players contribution, he should have gone off the other day for example but stayed on. To be fair they have obviously addressed a few things like Daves slow start to matches. A lot of people on here might say that Clucas needs help with his finishing too. The list is endless.
