And sodomy and the lash ................... Wasn't it Wellington who said "I don't know what effect these men will have upon the enemy, but, by God, they frighten me" ..... and to make them what they were, plenty of rum and the lash ........ and sodomy for those officers from public school ...... :emoticon-0105-wink:

Sorry, mate. Can I be clear. Is this a new series on More 4, or your personal request for tonight's entertainment? I didn't have you down as a Tory MP, but then life is full of surprises.

Only happy clappers welcome I see, this is one of the reasons I only post occasionally. Time and time again you see someone posting something outside the main stream thinking on this board and they get hounded away. " the Forum runs fine without you", very condescending and a little "selected posters only" feel. So lets have another very, very positive thread for all the happy clappers and Saints are bound to win, so reassuring. BTW for what its worth , I think the team plays with pride every week, the work hard but just lack the around quality to improve on last years results, we have stagnated a little and we need an attacking midfielder to complement our great defensive midfielders. I want Saints to win every week, but on Saturday one team was fighting relegation and the other for a place in Europe and which one seemed that they wanted the points more.

I don't think a single poster disagrees with that, even the most happy, clappy, really, positive thread writer didn't think or expect anything different. (Me :)) He just pointed out that it wasn't as bad as a lot of people (even the happy ones) thought (in his opinion).

I don't think St K got a fair deal and I've said that. He did ignore a simple question and then got abusive for which he has said he shouldn't have.

Keep posting Dellboy and keep posting a different point of view. Remember though that the happy clappers have just as much right to post happy as those who are not wanting to be considered happy clappers. It works both ways. BTW, have a look back at how much stick I get when posting about Pelle..... You may see that I don't then say people defending him are just trying to stop me posting criticism, you'll see me debate my point of view.

I enjoy most of your posts. You should post more.

We welcome all views here and so we should. What I (and, it seems, many others) don't understand, is the wave of grief, angst, anger and derision placed upon on the team when they lose (or nearly .....) when the same posters don't come on with pride, happiness and positive waves when they do well.
Having been through the rollercoaster of supporting Saints for upwards of 45 years now and watching the slide down with sadness, to see them up where they deserve to be is a source of pride (as is FINALLY getting my colleagues from over the pond to stop saying "you support who?" and start saying "watched your Southampton team play last week - they look pretty good ....") and we know things won't always go to plan, but all we can do is get behind them and not sit back and say "I told you so" and "Koeman out" just because we don't win every week.

I've met supporters from most Premier League clubs (not sure if I actually personally know anyone who supports Leicester, but I'm sure there'll be some coming out of the woodwork now) and most are like me, but there are a few (all from the supposed "big clubs") who expect to win everything and consider it a God given right to complain and moan without getting behind their team when things aren't going well. We don't want to be like that - do we?

We need positive happy clappers like FLT - but we also need a judged view on what we need in the team and how we can improve. I have a view and I've said it a few times - I think most people agree, but I'm happy to get into a reasonable conversation with someone, not relegated to name calling and irritation. There's no time or need for that.

We're all Saints supporters (hopefully - or why are you here?) and we need to support the team, through good, bad and indifferent. We're allowed our views - but don't ONLY post all the negatives without some of the positives - that's not supporting, that's picking holes for the sake of it.

    Right - I've said my bit. I'm off for a cuppa ..................

I come on here and am generally supportive (because I do believe they try their best all the time....it just doesn't work out), but I do reserve the right to jump around my lounge calling them stupid sods and idiot footballers.....then fall to my knees, crying Why, why, why? Then dust myself off, realise I am supporting Southampton not Barcelona, and post on here (sometimes after a long sulk).

That expression, taken out of context, means something different than when it is considered in the statement as a whole, the point being that the site will continue, whether you post or not, that's your choice, but in the long run the site will be enhanced if you post without any angst, abuse or being deliberately provocative against anyone that has an alternative opinion. Of course it takes two to tango, so anyone with an opposing view has to be careful how they word it, this is a good example of how people can turn a statement around to say something that was not intended.

Its normal to feel down after a bad result, of course its the manner of achieving that said result that usually does the most damage to ones happiness. But for me, these recent premier league years have been nothing short of brilliant, my expectations never float to high because I've been a saint too long, and that always helps keep the old feet on the ground.
But anyone who is taking the inconsistent form to heart & getting depressed, well all you need to do is go and relive 2008/9 season......now that was a spirit sapping soul breaking season of the highest order, go see, it might even cheer you up.

Despite our recent success I still don't expect Saints to be up the top of the Premier League so that's always a nice surprise. I always hope but that's different all together. I have spent too many years hoping they don't get relegated so I am always relieved when we reach 40 points and I can start thinking that next season will be better. I wonder if many older Saints fans have totally shrugged off the expectancy of just scraping by. It's that here we go again feeling sometimes. I really think we should be doing better in the cups though and I've no idea why we always throw it away.

My expectations may be lower than some but that doesn't stop me getting ridiculously stroppy about Saints losing a game. I want Saints to do a Leicester but I don't want them to turn into a top 4 club that throws money around and is supported by arrogant expectant fans.

That's mutual, apart from the jumping bit, I'm getting too old for that kind of thing.

Really, you sound like a politician, your expression was taken out of context, reading your statement it is saying if you do not like the way you are reacted to, go somewhere else, as "the Forum runs fine without you". I read stuff that I personally do not agree with but I choose to pass on and read the next reply and either agree with a post or shake my head and move on again and if I see something that catches my eye I will add my opinion. Please let me know what the participation quota is for post, we play x games and win so you can post xx, and if we play x games and lose and you posted xx times when we won then you can post xx times again, however, if you did not post xx times when we won last then when we lose you cannot post until we win again. I think I figured it out.

Just for the record I post way more when we lose than when we win. Lets face it, its more interesting trying to sort out what went wrong than do find different ways of saying that we played well.

I like to think that its possible to criticise without coming across like a moaner. With Saints, its certainly helps the older you are because even when we aren't playing well we are still playing better than at most times during our history. I can still recall a game at The Dell when about 2,000 people were watching and cheering a crisp packet if it blew over the goal line. Thats how entertaining the game was:emoticon-0113-sleep.

As a whole, we are quite a respectful bunch with some maybe not as diplomatic as others. If anyone is interested, my advice is, think before you write and not the other way round. Its so easy to react on the internet and words written down can easily be misinterpreted without a tone of voice and an expression to go with it.
