My girl forces me to carry provisions upon my back . I'm always one of the last out of the ground ...wait ages after her post match loo visit .
Having been on holiday and just landed at 2pm I was very happy the game was on late so I could make it. The number of people who left early astonished me, it hasn't happened before. I wondered if they were matchday only ticket holders as not all season ticket holders went to the live match.
It was even worse when Watford lost at home to Norwich last season .... but losing 3.0 it was almost understandable ..I still stayed on to clap Deeney and Gomes who always acknowledge the crowd at the end . Fans leaving early seems to be a growing trend ...as I said before it's largely season ticket holders going through the motions .
Is it a trend or maybe the current underperforming attack - or for the more simple reason that finishing a game at 7.30 on a Saturday evening is quite ridiculous for those supporters who live a distance away?
keep your eyes open and you will see it at many / most games at the Vic and generally at games on the box . I strongly believe it is down to the high percentage of season ticket holders who occupy a significant percentage of grounds ...they are aging and grown bored ( perhaps with life in general ) , hence the few signs of life or passion .
When I manage to get to a game I never leave early. I pay for a whole game and wish to get my money's worth.
Bit unfair to say that about people who pay £5-600 a season. I'd also add that it is not the duty of paying cutomers to sing and jump up and down if they don't want to. The ground has always been quite a broad church and long may it contune to be so.
Sad to say so far not able to convince my daughter that the above training would add to her personal development.
I'm just pleased you're not insisting that we stayed in our seats until we did score... as my mate (who did leave early tbh, I stayed to the bitter end) said 20 minutes before he left: it will be Easter before we score.... He wasn't far wrong.
But only just a bit unfair . In the scheme of things £500 -£600 is not a lot of money if you are on a reasonable salary , the sort of money I would pay for a half decent original WW2 military photo album ( Unlike the wages of many traditional footy supporters , who will have next to no disposable income ) .. I thought we were fans rather than customers ....Of course, in reality we are merely paying customers and football has long been a play thing for the rich who either aim turn a profit or are motivated by ego . Thankfully our owner's seem to be well informed money men and as a by-product "our" club are currently prospering . All quite bonkers really .
Maybe I should not reveal my secret plan, but being the caring sharing sort of person I am, I will - I have given up Occupation Road - I now exit the Rookery via the Sir GT stand and then cut back along Vic Road. But I have to say it has worked well up until Saturday when the crush behind the Vic Road stand was not something experienced for many a long year! - bloody inconsiderate Leicester fans hanging around singing and enjoying themselves! One other reflection on Saturday (if this is an iceberg that has been covered in an earlier post - I apologise), but I thought Ben Watson's free kicks and corners were absolute ****e on Saturday - don't get me wrong, Ben would be a candidate for player of the season and he has been immense, but on Saturday his normal quality was sadly missing.
Agreed Dan. Anyone else got a list of things I must and must not do while I'm at the Vic? Do I have to wear a scarf? What about a hat? What about a replica shirt? Surely we can't have people turning up not wearing yellow?
Can you please refrain from using the Kharzi when I need a pee (especially in this cold weather) - thanks in advance.
Watford sit 19th in how much their squad is worth and also wages payed to them . Leicester are 17th in both categories so not a great difference .
I have never bought or worn a replica shirt or any kit except a beanie hat about 20 years ago. My current Watford scarf was given to me by the club for going to Middlesbrough on the last away game of 1999-2000. My personal feeling is that football shirts on round bellied middle aged men is not a good look. My wife did buy me a 1984 Cup Final shirt at an auction for 80p about 25 years back but I never wore it as it was 3 sizes too small.
This year I was given a rather tasteful generic version that I am quite happy to wear as it only advertizes the football club.
