His arrival was high profile, to say the least. Third Division Watford signing a player with top flight experience and already capped at Under-21 level. The fee of £175,000 was the highest ever paid by a Third Division club. Between 1978 and 1984 he played 152 games, winning the player of the season award in the 1980/81 . In 1984 he moved on to Notts. County, but John Ward spotted that he was playing so well for them he returned for the 1986/87 season before moving on to Aston Villa. Our last meeting on 7th November 2015 WATFORD’s winning streak came to an end at the King Power Stadium as goals from N’Golo Kanté and Jamie Vardy gave Leicester a 2-1 victory. After an even opening half, Kanté scored the opener, seeing an effort slide under Heurelho Gomes, and the Foxes doubled their tally when Vardy fired home a penalty for the hosts. The Hornets made it a nervy end to the game for the Foxes, Troy Deeney coolly slotting home from the penalty spot, however they couldn’t find that prized equaliser. Leicester: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs, Albrighton, Kante, Drinkwater (King 90), Schlupp (Okazaki 46), Mahrez (Dyer 84), Vardy Watford: Gomes, Nyom (Diamanti 76), Cathcart, Britos, Ake, Anya, Capoue (Paredes 70), Watson, Abdi, Deeney, Ighalo please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Both sides have had goals from these two, but not quite so frequently of late. Will they get back to scoring ways again? Current Form. Leicester missed the chance to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League as West Brom came from behind to claim a thrilling draw on Tuesday. Juan Mata's late free-kick earned Manchester United a win over Watford on Wednesday, which if Watford had taken their chances would not have been the case. As QSF said after the game, “We deserved a lot but we didn’t get anything. But no problem. That’s football.” Current Table: 1 Leicester 28 20 57 2 Tottenham 28 27 54 3 Arsenal 28 16 51 4 Man City 27 17 47 5 Man Utd 28 11 47 6 West Ham 28 11 46 7 Stoke 28 -3 42 8 Liverpool 27 5 41 9 Southampton 28 7 40 10 Chelsea 28 4 39 11 Everton 27 13 38 12 Watford 28 0 37 please log in to view this image Referee - Jon Moss. Watford look poised to be without Jose Manuel Jurado and Craig Cathcart against Leicester City through injury while Tommie Hoban is making slow progress from a recurrence of the problem in his hip and groin area. Cathcart was only fit enough to be named on the bench at Old Trafford on Wednesday and, according to Quique Sanchez Flores, “is probably not ready” to face the all-action, high pressing Foxes tomorrow. Jurado is still no nearer to returning to the training field and will miss a fifth game in a row. “I was expecting a short time [for Jurado to be out],” said the head coach. “He received a kick in the calf against Chelsea. The calf is a very strange area. We need to wait a little bit more.” Wherever You Are In The World, Enjoy The Game
With the influential Kante out through injury and Vardy off the boil I think we can nick this one. Provided we can take our chances of course.
Thanks for the post OFH! So many impenetrable in this one - we win or draw and get the magic number with 9 games to go or they win and it's their title to lose. I doubt many would have predicted it. I will put my neck out, only slightly, and say we need to win it as if we do we will win the QF the week after.
Thank you for this great Thread OFH . Simo is one of my greats .he was one of the 1st class players to come to us .
Nice one OFH. I think we will win this with the team quite rightly frustrated after the Utd game. I am going for a 2-1 Watford win (I will leave 3-1 for H). With Ighalo getting 2 goals. I think Leicester will be more nervous than us...
After the ludicrous result (given the performances) at Old Trafford, this one will be much harder. Man U's team on Wed looked like they'd just been introduced to each other. If that lot are top 4/5 then we should be! Leicester are not top by accident, although spurs are (for me) the best team this season - and even they needed an offside goal to beat us at The vic. That said , it only needs a bit of luck for our chances to become goals. 2-1 for me with a nervy finish !
Watford fans are asked to remain in their seats at half-time during the Leicester City game with Nic Cruwys giving a message of thanks to supporters. Cruwys was hospitalised following an attack after Watford's game at Wolves a year ago. The Hornets fan will address the crowd tomorrow evening to thank everyone at the club and the wider football community for their support during his recovery. Cruwys will be helping raise awareness for Headway Hertfordshire, a charity which supports people who have suffered brain injuries. He is also supporting the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where he was treated last year. To donate up to £10 you can text HEAD01 and the amount to 70070. please log in to view this image
Well, here we are again, and still the media are talking about 'that' goal. Just listened to the comms and it still brings a tear to my eye and covers me in goosebumps! But, moving on. It will inevitably be a very tough game but Leicester are not the best team in the league imo, Spurs are, and i can see us getting at least something tomorrow, as long as we can find the net! This is definitely going to end up a 3-1 home win though . I kinda hope that ighalo will come off the bench tomorrow, he needs that shake up imo.
Talking about "that goal", my favourite bit was when Zola got bundled over as he ran up the side of the pitch, he just rolled back onto his feet with no break in his forward motion!
Besides when you play us , this will be the only time I hope against Watford ......I'm an underdog fool and want Leicester to win the title .... Good luck after this one though .
Nowhere near as confident as others on here, so I'll go for a draw. Hope they don't show that goal again on the big screen like they did last time we played LCFC at our place. They definitely had the last laugh that day.
Cheers OFH, it´s been a busy week nad have to go to Mexico City so might have to miss this one. I´take a point, can´t see it being a high scoring game to be honest. COYHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH VIVA WATFORD!!!
I think you boys will nick this one. You don't concede many and were undone by some unfortunate keeping in the first game, we'll have to be very careful handling your front two. You could just let us win though, that'd help. Kante may well be available too now, he completed a full training session.
Yes, please don't show the goal - let's move on, both clubs now very different from that day. Will be leaving around 1.30 for this one and am in two minds about it. In many ways Leicester got so much more to lose than us (though I'd like to get to that magic figure soon!) which I think could be an advantage. But of course we know how dangerous they are going forward. I think most Foxes are getting confident enough to think that this should be a win for them, but we know we're a tough nut to crack and can go on and win games. Anyone got any recent news on Kante? Foxes I know saying a more important player than Mahrez or Vardy to them.
Spurs and Arsenal battle out a 2-2 draw. This leaves Leicester still at the top and a win today could see them open up a bit of a cushion. Will this give them a bit of a push or make them nervous?
