So so gutting. That was so hard to take but ighalo needs to be dropped to the bench for a spell for sure! The positives are that we held our own and that were it not for a free kick and a bad ref none of us would be half so disappointed. It was just so inevitable sadly. So many chances. If only... On a good note, BHD is no longer the baby, he's the baby's daddy! He has a 14 week old son! Who knew! Congrats BHD, thrilled for you
I'm a proud hornet this morning ...listened to the game on 3 counties and watched via red button on sky . It sounded like a home game , could only hear Watford supporters singing . The lads played very well and looked the better side . Ighalo had a great opportunity to pass to Deeney who had a open view on goal ...Prodhl should have been awarded a penalty . So many other chances . A few more quality frontline signings in the summer and we might all be expecting to win these games next season . A good foundation has been laid .
I'm going to bang on about the lack of goals from midfield again. As Vic said a few pages back, we are now finding out what happens when Ighalo loses his range. I know Capoue has been unlucky not to have bagged two or three by now, but really we are blunt going forward. On the plus side, no one has really rolled us over, but unlike most other seasons I have never yet had the feeling that somebody soon is going to get a right old caning from us. Hoping that goals will start to come from all positions.
I would not be surprised if 2 or 3 of our final 10 games see our lads scoring 3, 4 or 5 ...we could have easily won by a decent margin last night . Hoping Flores sets the team up to score more goals in the remaining games ...many of the same players as last year but a polar opposite approach . Delighted with points tally this year , but style of play not especially entertaining . I'm sure Flores will want to take a more attack minded approach next season with the right players on board .
Although I did make the point that we have seen how we would get on when Ighalo's goals dried up, I am not a pessimist by nature. To a great extent he has already done his job and if he only manages to add 2 or 3 goals in the remaining fixtures, he would still have had an extraordinary season. Remember, at the start of the season, the overriding objective of this season was to stay in the PL - not to play entertaining football, not to be "in with a chance of Europe", not to win against the top 5 clubs, not to have one of the top 3 or 4 leading goalscorers, not to give Guedioura his chance, not to have a run in the FA Cup (or even to win it!). Flores has set his team up to do exactly what is required, and it has worked and will work until the end of the season. I suggest that with our remaining fixtures we are still on course to achieve 50 points or more - which will be a significant achievement however one looks at it. The real test will be, of course, next season. Already Flores has indicated that we will have a more expansive style of play with new recruits already at the club (albeit a couple away on loan) and to be sought in the close season (the recruitment of more quality players should be more easily accomplished than in 2015 because of our financial position and, against most pundits expectations, our position in the PL). We should not judge the likes of Suarez or Amrabat on the very few matches they have played so far in the confines of the system that Flores is using. The future has never been brighter for our club, in the short or longer term. A few hiccups along the way will be seen as such - and the naysayers will be proved totally wrong.
Top post Vic. Just to reinforce this, where would people put this season in the list of our best ever? Personally, I'd have thought it has to be second only to 82/83. Whilst all those promotion seasons gave us such joy of course surely they don't compare...
To clarify I wasn't having a go at anyone on this board - we all are mature and knowledgeable enough here to understand where we are as a club. I guess I shouldn't go on to the Watford Observer or that other board to see what is being posted! Some of it is utter drivel - albeit recognised as such by the more sensible posters on there.
United earned nothing but got 3 points from the game . Watford should have had a spot kick in the 80th minute. Thought Watford played a very good away game .
Good post, sometimes we need to stand back and remember where we are. Through the mind fog I can just about remember some of the games in the old 4th division!!!
We were a bit lucky , you weren't even close to being lucky in your game . Was very impressed with your away game ( watched quite a bit of it cause I couldn't stream mine ) and it seems Watford are back on track imo . Made Man U look pretty ordinary .
It's the sheer inevitability of it all: star striker has an off night and the referee becomes a homer at two crucial moments... and booking Britos into the bargain for his part in Tom Daley's cameo appearance is adding insult to fatal injury.
If Ighalo wasn´t making chances I´d drop him. At least he is creating. I´d just try to take the blinkers off him! We are doing well this season, like posters above have rightly commentated. Just sickening to lose in that way after dominating good chances. As it is Ighalo just needs to get one to go in and he´ll be back on form. Not worth dropping him ATM.
Hi guys, How come Cathcart didn't play last night? He was my Watford defender of choice on FPL! Do I need to transfer him out, or will he return!?
