We had a bark stopper. We naturally couldn't hear it so no idea if it was working but our dog took absolutely no notice. Just in case you wondered he has excellent hearing. Of course an Alsatian might be easier to train with it than a wilful terrier! Perhaps the dog is barking because he's not used to the new house yet and has been left alone too quickly.

Hi guys, haven't posted in ages and don't post often but thought i'd be a bit selfish here. This is completely unrelated to everything being posted but I am currently in third year at university and need participants for my dissertation study, it's an online questionnaire that takes 10 minutes to complete and it is on the organizational stressors that sports players face. I would be truly grateful if anyone over the age of 18 who plays sport regularly or sporadically fills it in. Many thanks for reading this. Link below. Apparently the isolation he 'suffers' is affecting his behaviour. Really? Hard cheese, I think. He got off very lightly with a 21 year sentence. Killed 77 people and I think he would have preferred it if he'd managed to kill more. I'm as empathic as any person I know, but I draw the line there. Rot.
The 3 white woman are scientists.... The only black lady in the film actually says this " I am no scientist but I do know these streets".
Hi ALG, may I suggest that you start a new thread with this request on? We have plenty of precedents for this type of thing and you'll get more hits with a separate thread.
Where's Rorschach's Journal when you need him? The occasion being that I've finally watched the Watchmen, and it was not bad, but didn't set me on fire. I don't tend to go for comic book adventurer leagues, DC, Marvel or whoever, bar one group, but I'll come to that later. But, even so, I must admit I found something in this one. A comprehensive story backed up by one of the main characters' [Rorschach] private diaries as his bitter personal comment. At times it was slightly difficult to keep up with the characters' motivations, as the film jumped from a personal perspective to a back story, to another perspective and another back story. But I got it in the end. At 3hrs and 6 mins long, you've got to be keen, I think, or be a fan, or maybe know the comic stories. I came to this cold, and got through about an hour of it before I checked to see how long it was going to be. So I was astonished to find it was only a 3rd of the way through. Because the story still really hadn't got going, and that's the thing with this film. I felt it was always just about to get going. That's a shame because there's truckloads of potential here, but more often than not, it wasn't really tapped. For example, the omnipotent and very blue skinned Dr Manhattan [he of the hydrogen atom symbol burned into his forehead by himself] stood around being statuesque, and did very little more than tilt his head slightly or be a deterrent to... well almost anybody. However, the film was visually stunning and that was often down to the small things he was allowed to do in the story. Inevitably, one begins to compare it with other comic book leagues even though I've never been a big reader of illustrated stories. The only one I've ever found quite entertaining is the X-Men. I even read one or two of the comics years ago, but it's the films that shine for me. They get the balance better, in my opinion. What they managed to do was clear the back story out of the way and let the action get going, from the first film, rather quickly. In subsequent films, they went back to the history successfully, simply because the audience was now with them. And this is what Watchmen doesn't do. It tries to explain everything before the meat of the story happens, and whilst that alone was well done, one might have been looking at sequels had the scriptwriters gone the X-Men route. I've read that it's pretty faithful to the original Watchmen comics. That may have been its problem, though I did appreciate its comic book look and feel, which X-Men films don't have in comparison. Not for everyone, in my opinion. Possibly more artistic than overtly thrilling.
[ Here I am TSS That's a pretty fair summing up I'd say. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I loved it - from an artistic and stylistic point of view and because Rorschach is such a great character. There's no grey in his world view, just black and white which was such a juxtaposition to the comedian who was comfortable in the shadows with his rape and murder yet still managed to be a masked hero. You're right I think when you say the film's failings are down to being too faithful to the graphic novel, but as I'm a fan, I saw it as a plus for that reason. Each to their own I guess - I hated Interstellar so I'm never bothered by my favourites being seen as quirky or even just not very good by other people. Watchmen soundtrack is awesome though, especially the Dylan track, Desolation Row covered by My Chemical Romance.
The dialogue was great too TSS, stuff like Sally Jupiter's comment on the passing of time: I'm 67 years old. Every day, the future looks a little bit darker. But the past... even the grimy parts of it... keep on getting brighter. I thought it was a really human film, full of frail humans that we can all relate to in one way or another.
I will let my daughter know what you have said. She will be pleased to get some feed back she works on the cardiac wards. She may have even attended you guys......... Nice to hear you are well on the mend.........
