I cannot believe for one minute that we have not been getting encouragement from the Maynard camp to make a really good offer to Bristol City for his services if he did not want to come. Why else would you keep making bids knowing the player might or will turn you down!

You make a fair point, but Maynard has said publicly on more than one occasion that he is happy at Ashton Gate, but wants to play in the Prem.

I think he would be taking an unnessisary risk on signing for a club that might go up, when he can wait and see.

After all the team throwing around all the cash with famous manager last summer was Gorden Strachan at Middlesbough and they ended up halfway.

Nicky might want to gamble for a pay raise, but if all he really want to do is play in the Prem he will wait and go to a Bolton or Everton, or even a Leicester..... if they go up.

Saying we would be a risk in case we dont go up. If Maynard signs for us and we dont go up and a prem teams comes in he may leave then.

He would just have a clause in his contract to be released to a prem club for 'x' amount if we don't go up

Its a possiblity, but surly its much more likely he just lets his contract run out with a swansong season at Ashton Gate and moves to the Prem for free next year.

One thing nobody seems to mention about Nicky is his awful medical record. Maynard has spent 2 of the last 4 seasons on the treatment table.

Call me old fasioned but I feel like he owes us.

Nicky Maynard will stay with Bristol City, help them to promotion & then have his wish, to play in the premier league & with the club he loves!!!!

It took him 5 years to notice Nancy was a swivel eyed, loon, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I do kind of agree that we would have given up on this one if we didn't get any indication from Nicky Maynards camp that he was interested in the move. I think we need to give them a deadline here as much as I'd like him to join there are other fish in the sea that we are looking at.

Well at least it's about to end - according to Bert the final bid will be £4m plus Waghorn.

    I doubt you'll take that.

If Waggy was short of confidence before god knows what he's going to feel like after this. Either way he'll end up going, it will be pretty clear to him now that Sven doesn't rate him.

A bit disappointed tbh - I would have thought we would be bidding at least another million and then the player on top, or alternatively another million. If we paid £5m for a defender we really wanted, I don't see why we don't want to go for as much and more for a striker, which is arguably harder to find especially when Sven really wanted him to.

It's a tense wait to see who Sven's second choice actually is - either Yakubu or Ebanks-Blake I'm thinking.
