"Misconduct", I'm afraid my fears were realised it was crap, Worse film I've ever seen Al Pacino in, really bad acting, It had an amateur dramatics feel, well that was just my Interpretation others may have a different opinion. Left me feeling very disappointed as it looked like It was going to be good.......still !!! the toffee popcorn Was bloody lovely .....
Glad you enjoyed `The Road`...certainly is grim viewing but enjoyable in a weird way....the book is relentless in being even more grim

"Exposed", what a ****ing weird film, one bright light in it though was one Ana De Armas... An absolute stunner.... This might sound daft but I actually don't know if i liked it or not, got a feeling I didn't .. But defiantly weird....
Watched The Survivalist as recommended by LibLob. Thanks. Slow going but incredibly detailed in setting and pared down in dialogue. Compelling if not hugely entertaining viewing. Some weirdly inexplicable stuff going on too. It seems to have become standard practice in film to assume that in a post apocalyptic world, people will for some unspecified reason loose the urge to communicate. I don't know why that might be.
Wasn't planning to watch a film after getting back from City yesterday, but I needed something to feel like the evening was worth it... This was the one film on my Kurosawa list I had yet to watch... I am so glad I have seen it now. Day 8 of Kurosawa: The Hidden Fortress Brief synopsis: Lured by gold, two greedy peasants escort a man and woman across enemy lines. However, they do not realize that their companions are actually a princess and her general. Review: Akira Kurosawa has made a lot of great films, many of which have gone on to inspire whole areas of cinema. While Hidden Fortress doesn't represent his best, most influential or most important work; it's definitely an important movie in film history in it's own right, and besides that, it's a damn good movie to boot. I was most surprised at the amount of comic relief present in the movie. When watching a Kurosawa film, I always expect it to be a serious affair; so the comedy in this movie made for a surprise, which was, on the whole, a good surprise as like most things in Kurosawa's films; it works. The film has become most famous recently for the many parallels that it has with the masterpiece Star Wars, and it has become well documented that this film was a major influence on said movie, which is shown most clearly by the fact that a lot of the story is shown through the eyes of two bumbling people that aren't all that relevant to the central plot, and the style of editing; which George Lucas adopted many times in his epic trilogy. The plot follows a princess who must be escorted across enemy lines by her general. Two greedy peasants join the escort on the promise of a reward of gold. Like Star Wars, the plot here is relatively simple; and it's the way that the story is portrayed, not the story itself, that makes this movie great. Despite it's simplicity, Kurosawa gives it the style of an epic; and it really feels like one. Kurosawa regular, Toshirô Mifune heads a great ensemble cast; all of which do well in their roles. Kurosawa had a great talent for pulling great performances out of everyone in his films, and he shows that talent excellently here. The cinematography is excellent, and the master director has managed to capture some truly stunning landscapes, which serve in adding beauty to the picture. While I adore Ran and it's vibrant colours, black and white allows Kurosawa to blend atmosphere into his films, and they're always the better for it. On the whole, Kurosawa is a genius - and this is one of his best films. Rating: 9/10

I guess I'm probably the only person on this thread who hasn't seen Groundhog Day yet. Going to see it tomorrow night at Kingswood Cineworld, it's only been out 23 years, thought I'd best get round to it.

The Oscars tonight of course. Surely Leo is gonna finally win? It was definitely the best performance of the year in my opinion (of those nominated). Think The Revenant is going to sweep it (though Spotlight and Mad Max deserve equal recognition really).

Day 59, film 59, was"domestic disturbance", John travolta and a very young looking Vincent vaughn, watchable without being good, still, better than having to watch a chick flic with my good lady....
This evening I took a break from Kurosawa and watched the greatest ever film to win Best Picture, The Godfather. Even though it isn't my personal favourite film of all time, it might be the best film ever made. Just my opinion of course.
Currently watching band of brothers The missus bought me the full box set at Christmas. Half way through it. Really is superb, it takes you there just like Saving Private Ryan did.
Well deserved for his performance, but so glad the feature length Bear Grylls bore fest didn't win best picture.
