Ffs, how many more times, it's not down to not splashing the cash but more down to the coaching or lack of it. As I said 'Portsmouth played us off the park twice' they haven't forked out millions. There are good young and hungry players out there that wouldn't cost much but MM would rather the likes of bloody Coke. So it IS MM that is at fault and I hope something happens that will force ME's hand. Coco out!
2 cup games doesn't make a 46 game season Spanish, in fairness all this about giles coke, how many minutes has he actually played for the first team in the league? It wasn't that long ago that Skuse was the scapegoat, yet I would put my house on the fact that Hull wouldn't have scored the goal they did if he was playing. I don't disagree with you that we could be playing a better style, but sometimes a better style doesn't mean better results.
My point was never really that Mick was wrong not to play them/ ship them on. It was that they were brought in as exciting wing players then, especially in relation to Niles, seemingly judged in competition with Skuse/Douglas. These are the type of players Mick has gone for when looking for wingers. Could be argued that he's been limited by budget, after all he did find and sign up Fraser. But it seems as if Mick finds it difficult to fit the wingers he signs into the system and then shine the diamonds. I'm sure some other club might have paid good money for Oars services. By the end many of us shrugged his departure off as him being average anyway.
I believe AMN played most of his youth football as an attacking centre midfielder, so I can only assume Mick put him out wide early on was that he thought it would be easier on the young kid for a season. The Oar situation was quite baffling, I can only think that he thought he would be a first name on the team sheet player, but it sort of happened at the same time as we went 4-3-3, and he didn't really suit that style, and then got the hump a couple of weeks too early rather than sticking it out and fighting for his place.
Didn't know when I started this thread that the title would be so prophetic! I can't remember a manager dividing opinion as much as MM has, with the dark lord and Jewell they were almost universally derided,at least towards the end. My own beef with the man is not our dip in form or false expectation about playoff places or promotion,it's the mind numbing dross he foists on us as supposed entertainment. My brother comes to about 8 games a Season on average with his youngest but has made it clear he'll probably find other ways to spend his cash for the foreseeable future. It's this aspect, trying to attract and then retain the occasional/casual Fans, that I can't understand an experienced businessman like ME not taking on board. In terms of the business they are almost pure profit, because once the attendance is past about 15,000,the extra costs of further punters must be minimal compared to the extra ticket revenue. Plus I'm sure the spend per person in the ground,is on average higher for casuals than regulars.
Well, you can continue to back MM but rest assured it will end in tears, the only problem i have with ME is that he continues to stick with MM. As Bigal says, crowds will fall and i can only see us going in one direction and that is not ****ing up!!
" sometimes a better style doesn't mean better results. " Well yesterday was the best example of this, Hudd played pretty triangles and got f all.
Wasn't at the match so I can only go by what I heard on the radio. It sounds ,however, like Bart kept us from a hammering. The stats also make pretty grim reading, and, yes,I know the only really important stat is the final score.Face it though,we just aren't going to get out of this league with Mick's pragmatic 'not loose at all costs and sneak a win if possible' approach. Given, therefore, that we seem doomed to second tier football for the foreseeable, personally I'd rather we tried,at least, to entertain the fans.OK we may not win any more games than at present, but I think it will in the long term bring back the casual fans, increase club revenue, with the hope we can attract better quality players.Just my ha'penny worth. I suppose what I'm really trying to say is,just because we get one spawny win,it doesn't make everything in the garden rosy.
