Day 2 of Kurosawa: Stray Dog Brief synopsis: During a sweltering summer, a rookie homicide detective tries to track down his stolen Colt pistol. Review: Kurosawa makes a deep and enjoyable film about a young cop on his first case. A great example of a whodunit, Kurosawa's third collaboration with Mifune is a hardboiled detective story, however, it is far from the usual C.S.I. garbage. For one, the violence is restrained till the very end and even then it is portrayed with such restraint that it serves to shock all the more because it heightens the tension. Mifune's performance is a great one as a troubled, 'green', cop who has reservations about his own abilities after he loses his police issued weapon--a Colt. The pacing of the film is fantastic and a good supporting cast make this noir a treat to watch. Rating: 8/10
For me a really good film is one you can watch again and again, "snatch" comes into that category, I liked jason earlier stuff.

Looks like a kids film with the addition of profanity and blood. Not my usual cuppa but I have seen all today's games so will give it a go. edit... Managed 10mins. Oh dear! Going to follow Quill's lead and watch Ran.
Following Quill's lead would also include watching Deadpool, because as a massive fan of the comic, I bloody loved it and it's my fave film of 2016. Watched Rashomon earlier than I expected today so here's the review: Day 3 of Kurosawa: Rashomon Brief synopsis: A heinous crime and its aftermath are recalled from differing points of view. Review: Deserves being constantly ranked among the best films ever made. Kurosawa's first masterpiece film, the film that introduced him to the west, and the film most associated with him after only Seven Samurai. Rashomon was the first Kurosawa film I ever saw and I was shocked at how courageous Kurosawa was to make such a unique and unusual movie. It is not like conventional films which provide audiences answers for everything; answers that are often sugar-coated and overly optimistic. This great film makes a genuine attempt to find the truth and hope in a corrupt and dishonest film. It is the ultimate film about reality versus perception. Kurosawa never really tells us what happens, but shows us a bunch of conflicting accounts of the same event. Through these testimonies, Kurosawa examines the nature of human beings and why we do certain things. It is one of the most perfect films I have ever seen and definitely one of the most profound. The richness of this film increases in my mind after every viewing along with my respect for it and for Kurosawa. Rating: 10/10
"Margin call", I liked it, might not be to everyone's taste. It's about an American mechant bank that has over Extended its finances and is in a bit of trouble , Some very good actors in it... Kevin spacey, Paul Bethany,Jeremy irons, Zachary quinto(the new Spock) and Stanley tucci, who I think is a great actor He's been in some great movies Spotlight, road to perdition, hunger games and The terminal...
Sorry, I can't follow you that far. I have to draw a line somewhere. I will just have to accept that, as with dancing and musicals, I am blind to the qualities of film adaptations of graphic novels. Tried many but the only one I actually got through was V for Vendetta. Which I quite enjoyed. Odd as I used to be a massive fan of superhero comics. But I was also prepubescent. I read and enjoyed The Fabulous Furry Freak Bros comics through my teens but apart from that an Ogri I just can't see the attraction for adults. Each to their own but I am curious as to what people actual enjoy about them and will give each new proclaimed masterpiece at least 10 mins to convert me. Watched Ran last night and as usual was so carried away with the pictures I failed to read much of the subs. Easier viewing for tonight... 2 to chose out of - Intermission, The Snapper, and What Richard Did.
Check out Fortitude (was on Sky last year) Tucci was brilliant in that, quite an interesting series too, got the woman from the Danish Killing in it (Grabol?) and a few other decent actors
Thanks i'll try that, my lads put sky go on my iPad so will try it if I can get mrs mop off the bloody thing.
