Joey Barton was a great leader on the pitch. Nedum Onuoha is not half the captain that Joey was. I don't think he guides, leads or inspires any of the team. I would like to see JFH make the selection and recruitment of a new captain his first priority in June.
The fellow always gave 100% and led by example. He stood up for the players with the referee. Yes, we got tonked a few times, but his contribution compared to Nedum Onuoha, was night and day.
He was last weekend. But that was just petulance on his part. And accordingly he was booked. Love him or hate him, Wayne Rooney has an ongoing conversation all match with the referee. No less so when they were thrashing us last season. It makes no difference to him. He understands and leverages his role as captain. I said as much about Nedum Onuoha as I have recently at the start of the season and was lambasted on this forum. He's been a very poor leader from game one. There's much rebuilding that needs to take place come June. The next appointment of captain should be high on JFH's list.
Still none the wiser as to why having pace and power to recover situations is a negative thing. And I still see no reason to reasonably explain the over exaggerated criticism of Onouha to the extent that being quick and strong is a bad thing. This paired up with the ridiculously positive slant on Hall makes me wonder if the sub-conscious as opposed to overt racism makes it easier for majority of our fans to relate to Hall rather than Onouha. The longer this goes on the more I believe that. Watch Hall during the first and third goal last Saturday. This ain't a bloke with positional sense to praise
Peter I have read and re-read this....and this reads as though you are accusing many fans on here (and loomo in particular due to your use of his post) of racism. I take exception to this, and would like an apology or a recindment....unless you can demonstrate where this has happened. And I will re-iterate as I have said on many threads before. I do not think that Ned is a good on field leader
At no point did I say having pace or power is a negative. suggest you read my comments carefully and answer my request for the 3rd time
Konchesky looks like something out of the SS and he's useless. Perch is mixed race and he's useless. Hall is white and is quite good mostly, but occasionally useless. Onuoha is black and sometimes good and sometimes useless. Hope this helps.
Took a very good save from their good keeper to stop "useless" Perch scoring Saturday. Can't remember "useless" Konch doing much wrong thst game, and both scored average by critics, about as I saw their games myself. Both CB's were ranked under par correctly. But I'm fully with you about the rest.
Well it started with. Then I asked why this being framed as a negative: You decided that you agreed with Norway and so that it is a negative to use pace and strength to defend in situations a weaker and slower defender couldn’t save Still confused why Onouha was being criticised for using pace and power to defend and discounted as part of what makes a good defender as if positioning was the only relevant attriubute, I asked… Then because I’ve seen all season where Hall consistently receives over the top praise but Onouha regularly receives harsher treatment on messageboards, fan based match reports and ratings I believed all season that part of the thinking for this is linked to a psychological theory called ‘ethnic nepotism’, where people have a biological bias to favour people from their own ethnic groups. So with no mention anywhere in match reports about any negativity to Hall being culpable for 1st and 3rd goals and loads of criticism of Onouha and then people even putting a negative spin on Onouha having pace and power I suggested for this reason was essentially ethnic nepotism in pratice: I’ll take your word for it that your bias isn’t ethnic nepotism. I don’t even know the ethnicity of you or any other poster. So I’ll now make it clear that my main intention was speaking much more broadly about something viewed over the season and the response to Hall and Onouha’s performances have made me believe it’s ethnic nepotism even more
Norway's post is saying his pace and strength are some of his few positive attributes which put together make up a poor defender. Personally I'm Ned fan but I can see why others aren't. Dare I say you're either mistaken or looking for trouble, Damage
So...you do not know our ethical make up Peter ....but then you go on to accuse us ( and loomo ) of ethnic nepotism....you cannot have it both ways....
Think you're getting on thin ice here Damage with your "ethnic nepotism" jibe..........suggest you don't go down that road and instead use other arguments to support your opinion........
Look up the meaning of the following Sorry. I made a mistake. Didn't mean to offend. You chose to justify rather than admit fault. You must be confused as I criticised his positional sense but he uses his pace to get him out of the trouble. I would dare to suggest that praises his pace but not his positional skills. However, I must be wrong and your right as you have gone to such lengths to prove it so.
How about some more debate about the efficacy of Nedum Onouha in his role as captain. If he relinquished this, who credibly could step in? Someone in the club at present; or a Ray Wilkins / Peter Reid type of character who could command instant respect and experience. At one point earlier in the season, I thought we might make a move for Kevin Nolan - a ready made replacement for Joey Barton.
We're severely lacking those sort of characters at the club Sku, only Hill fits that criteria and it's a big ask at his age to play week in week out. Maybe Faurlin could step into that role, he is vocal, and would be one of the first names on team sheet when fit, therein lies the problem..... Perch a possibility if he was a bit more consistent and seen as leadership quality....... Karl Henry....cough, cough..... The barrel is being scrapped.....
That goes beyond scraping the barrel. You're smashing it to pieces. It's too big a responsibility for a young-ish player like Hall but I think he could grow into it. We need to bring in someone with those qualities next season after losing all the dross. Another gem from Burton, perhaps. I'd like to think neither Perch nor Henry will be at the club.
