Been thinking this for a while. He's scored 9 at home and 0 away and often goes missing away from home. Maybe it's time, in our current predicament to use him more as a sub and possibly play Tiote AND Saviet in the middle just behind Sissoko. We'll be harder to break down. We'll also retain the ability through the wings to hit teams on the break. For me, we shouldn't be daft and target wins against teams like Chelsea... we should be realistic and target the draws.
I agree, it's worth a shot, at least in one game. No point buying all these attacking players if you don't then use them to their full. Townsend and Perez on the wings, they are good at tracking back. Might still keep shelvey in though rather than tiote and saivet, that'd be too much defence in my view.
Would be worth a test, agree Shelvey to stay in as he does offer the attacking threat/connection between defending and attacking that we have missed for years. So a less overtly defensive set up to a more...balanced side...while still retaining a counter attacking threat, otherwise we will just end up trying to park the bus...and considering our defence...we wouldnt have a bus to park...more a milk float that said, and in the position we are ..IF we can get the attacking side running 'ok' ..would rather we took that route ..better to lose a couple of games for the one in three chance of a win ...playing for draws is a dangerous game particularly down at the bottom
Poor lad was torn a new one by Lennon. Luckily the baggies haven't any decent wingers, but Chelsea have a couple. If I were Hiddink, Hazard and William would run that channel.
It will be carnage. Aarons is a cracking talent but he'll be off I would think. Not one you can pin on Steve mind, the ****er has never been fit. However seeing Townsend arrive and all this left back caper is likely to expedite his departure. He was only going to turn really good and leave anyway I suppose.
He actually put in the best cross versus West Brom... If Sissoko didn't do his annual reappearing trick for Chelsea every year, I'd be more tempted to put him LB!
Been saying this a while. Drop Gini, bring him on for Mitro or when we're behind. Play Sissoko on the left, hes better on th left. Or drop Sissoko too and play Perez, he has a knack of scoring away from home and does much more in terms of tracking back. Aarons, unlike Sissoko can actually cross. He put in more than one pinpoint cross against WBA.
I would play Gini I have to say. He is our best player by some distance. Its more about how we set up and use him for me.
I cannot work out how this is a good idea. Perez has looked like a rabbit in headlights a few times recently and Wijnaldum is, at worst, a dangerous player who keeps the opposition thinking. I think the team, rightly, picks itself for this one. Only problem for me is LB; Dummy, Colback, Aarons, Haidara - doesn't matter who's fit it's still crap.
If Wijnaldum is dropped I'd start Perez. He's scored both winning goals against Spurs and B'Mouth, so we can't accuse him of going missing. One thing I'd say though is that you can't better your away performances if you aren't on the pitch.
Shelvey is basically the team captain now, so he kind of has to stay in. He's starting to run the midfield and attack.
Shelvey and Tiote as deeper midfielders (a no-brainer for me after the last game, plus there's no point in playing either of them further up the field as one is a DM and the other is best as long balls and through balls from a deeper position) with Townsend, Wij and Sissoko ahead of them (as they are our three best other midfielders and all offer different things - you've got to pay Sissoko in the big games, they're when he turns up!!). There's an argument for the likes of Perez and De Jong away from home to hold onto possession but I'd go with Mitro again personally.
This battle could be a fun watch today ..there again, that concentration of experience in the 'dark arts' of defending (as well as being genetically cheating scum) ..might well see Mitro sent off ..He will have to be on best behaviour methinks and not rise to any provocations
