Moreno has more pace and a better left foot than Flanno.

Flanno will not be able to provide a fraction of what moreno does going forward.

He's actually not that good. I know Flanno has a lot of fans here but he's below average. Constantly beaten by pace, loses his man, can't jump, zero pace. He was praised for his performance against West Ham - he was at fault for the first goal, lost a header for the second, and West Ham got in behind him several times. His weaknesses never get picked up because he's a local lad.

But he's not providing anything going forward, I like the lad but he's lost at the moment and needs to be dropped.

    There is this to consider.

Moreno is a ****e defender Jimmy.

Your constant defence of his ongoing ****eness in that regard does you no favours.

Moreno can do a lot more - he's not the answer, I agree with you. But he's still created the most chances in our team and is an outlet (the quality of those chances can certainly be questioned).

Take Moreno out for Flanno, you lose that width and you lose the outlet. Flanno get up the flank but he has zero pace to get back into position or use his left foot. We will lose that entire flank and have to rely on Clyne - who offers even less than Moreno lol.

Full back positions need upgrading in my opinion.

I agree to a point but you're missing mine. Moreno is a good player and I hope he's at the club a long time as he will improve and in time he'll become a real assest, Flanno is a limited player but gives his all and does a "good" job, nothing more. At this point Moreno is terrible and needs time on the training ground and on the bench to take stock and look at what he needs to do to improve. We've tried playing him through this bad patch but it hasn't worked.

Flanno in will give us a better defensive base than the out of form Moreno, it's then down to Moreno to improve and get his place back.

He's below average defensively - i agree with that.

But people are criticising him and saying Flanno and Smith are good which is plain wrong.

I agree on your points in regrds to Smith his positional play is poor and is not much of an improvement on Moreno which is again why I'd put Flanno in there.

Smith is a cracking left winger, but he's no left back.

Flanagan is a good all round full back. He's a better defender than both Clyne and Moreno and knows when to go forwards and when to stay at home.

Given he's been out for so long his performances have been very impressive.

  11. Nope. It was blatantly Moreno at fault. His bad position and then decision making left the defence out of sync

But I disagree with Flanno doing a good job. He doesn't.

I get that we need reliable yet unspectacular players in the squad but they must also be able to perform their basic role to a high standard.

Finnan and Arbeloa are great examples of this. Flanno simply isn't.

I didn't criticise him...at least not unfairly. I just do not see him on current form as so far ahead of the others...and the point of having a squad is to rotate it for injury or form. I'd agree if I thought putting in either of the other two would see a dramatic drop in defensive or offensive performance of the team but there is nothing to suggest that will occur.

And it is only right to give the other players a chance to better his recent prrformances. If there is an eventual gulf in class between our players it will show itself very clearly and best will pick themselves....

Smith is very good going forward - agree he is better than Moreno in that respect.

Flanno doesn't have the pace to attack and get back into position quick enough. We will be exposed constantly.

He played against Exeter. And he was average against West Ham - granted he's been out for a while so will cut him slack but it's not different to when he was fully fit. Will try and find the clip but he loses his man 2-3 times over the game. Basic fundamentals. And he's not good going forward.

All in all, we need to bring in a couple of new full backs. Moreno and clyne are good squad options but they need to step up if they want to become first teamers.

Definitely not a priority - but an injury to Moreno or Clyne and we're screwed.

The pair cost you circa £25m.

Clyne is decent, Moreno is ****.

I'll have you a wager that Klopp keeps the former and bins off the latter this summer.
