    If Tennyson is too big an ask, how about something in the style of William McGonagle?

    It little profits that our great Koeman,
    By this dugout, among these Swansea valleys,
    Match'd 'gainst an average team, should pick a team
    Superior to those of a savage race,
    That hoard their sheep, and sing, and know not round balls.
    We must take points from travel: we will dink
    Balls twixt knees; smash shots into guarded nets;
    Tackle hard, though we suffer greatly; cheered on
    By those that love us, and have travelled far
    Thro' Welsh snowdrifts, over the Bristol Channel,
    the dim M4: We are become a name:
    For always roaming with a hungry heart
    Much have we seen and known; cities of men
    And manés, relegations, paintpot cups and promotions,
    Managers and chairmen honor'd all;
    And drunk delight of battle with our peers,
    Far on the ringing plains of windy Carlisle.
    We are a part of all that we have met;
    Yet all experience is an arch wherethro'
    Gleams that untravell'd world, whose margin fades
    For ever and for ever when we move.
    How dull it is to pause, to make an end,
    To rust unburnish'd, not to shine in use!
    As tho' this glass ceiling sealed us. 7th place
    Was all too little, and so to us more than
    Little remains: For every hour is saved
    For that eternal singing, Saintly score,
    A bringer of new medals; and vile it were
    For some three points to slip away and hoard themselves,
    In the grey spirit of this grim South Wales.
    Let us follow Fonte like a shining star,
    Beyond the utmost bounds of human thought.

    This is our team, our own dear Southampton,
    Beloved of the county and the Isle-
    Of Wight, of those who love the pressing game:
    This labour, by slow prudence makes foes mild,
    Our rugged people, will thro' soft degrees
    Subdue the Swans to the Clasie and the Rom.
    Hardworking is Shane, centred in the sphere
    Of common duties, decent not to fail
    In offices of tenaciousness, who plays
    Worthy of adoration like the gods.
    When Austin comes on, he scores and we head home.
    There lies the port, the vessel puffs her sail:
    There gloom the dark broad seas. My Saints players,
    Souls that have toil'd and wrought, and fought for us-
    Be it Tadic with a step-over or
    The thunder of a Pelle shot well hit-
    Our hearts are filled - you and I are proud;
    The Saints hath yet their honour and their toil;
    The whistle closes all: but something ere the end,
    Some chant of travelling fans may yet be sung,
    Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods.
    The time begin to dwindle from the clocks:
    The ninety minutes wanes: injury time is all but up:
    Swansea moan with many voices. Come, my friends,
    'Tis not too late to seek the Champions' League.
    Push on, and sitting high in table smite
    The thieving scousers; for our purpose holds
    To rise beyond the fourth place, and the Mancs
    Of fallen superstars, until we're kings.
    It may be that the odd loss will wash us down:
    It may be that we shall slump to rare defeat,
    And see the great Achilles, whom we knew (so well in the nineties).
    Tho' much was taken, much abides; and
    We are now of greater strength than those old days.
    We have moved heaven and earth; Que Sera Sera
    That which we are, we are; And always were.
    One equal temper of heroic hearts,
    Made weak by time and Rupert Lowe, but strong in will
    To pass, to press, to beat, and not to yield.

    They've both been training outside I think - just not with first team.

    Its so clear what should happen in this game (Swans 0, Saints >0) and yet so clear that at some point the inevitable will become the evitable that I literally have nothing at all useful to add to this thread.

    Now what does this little red button marked Post Reply do?
    ... Whoops ...

    I think a key area, for us and them, will be free kicks within shooting range for Sigurdsson.
    Restrict those and we increase our chances of another clean sheet.
    Might also be worth asking him what his plans are for next season.

    Norwich spent a bit of money in January! time for their new players to bed in and shock West Ham. Obviously we'll win and if Norwich can win (or even draw) we'll be up to 6th! COYR!!!!

    Another poem ripped off. Next week, I'll write one of my own.

    My prediction: 1-0 win for the Saints. Another clean sheet. In fact, no more goals conceded this season! :)

    Did I say you were very good? Well you're very, very good. I got that. It spoke to me. Mind if I nick it for later [again}?

    You and the Norwich poet [or is it Reading, can never remember] should compare notes. I shall await your original poem. :)
