Ok, I agree. Problem is you still end up winning trophies. Do you think that your midfield is so bad that it's all over and do you think Rooney can replace Scholes?
The first one is too weak in midfield and I can't see SAF ever playing it as it would put too much pressure on the defence. I would be happy with the 2nd option though as Nani, Rooney and Young could interchange bring some fluidity to the team which United have been lacking since Ronaldo and Tevez left.
Relative to other top sides our central midfield is poor. Our defence and attack is what helps us win trophies but a weak midfield upsets the balance of the team.

If we don't sign anyone else then I personally think against weaker sides we will play a 4231 with the 3 attacking midfielders all having the freedom to cut inside or switch positions ---------Chicharito --Young---Rooney----Nani ------Carrick--Fletcher Evra--Vidic--Ferdinand--Rafael -----------De Gea Against stronger teams I think we will go with a 4411 with Rooney dropping back to make it a 451 -----------Chicharito -------------Rooney Park--Anderson-Fletcher-Valencia Evra----Vidic---Ferdinand--Rafael -------------De Gea Just my opinion, but I think it's possible, I also think Fabio could take Rafael's position this season and Berbatov could play up front in either formation if we needed to hold the ball up more.
