The season is far from over a team that goes a on a good run at the right time often sneaks a promotion place and I like the way our team is shaping up our two new signings look exciting and although Polter plays like a top balarina he does worry defences Smithies was magnificent yesterday and can actually kick properly! I can see us going on the required run.

Yes of course. Always want us at the top level. The PL must be the target, and the financial rewards are enormous. But it looks very unlikely.

Unless we establish ourselves there and improve year after year it would get very boring and expensive very quickly.

We wouldn't be ready but I'm sure the huge windfall would help the accountants out .

Good post match interview with JFH, very encouraging going forward to our next win.

So glad that Smithies has established himself as #1 and calamity Green is finally out of the picture, with a very capable young keeper on the bench if required.

Matt Phillips has scored six goals for QPR this season

Matt Phillips' late strike helped QPR to a well-deserved first home win under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink against Ipswich in the Championship.

Ipswich keeper Bartosz Bialkowski made three good saves from Junior Hoilett to deny the R's a first-half lead.

The hosts continued to dominate in the second half before Freddie Sears missed a good chance to put Ipswich ahead.

QPR finally sealed the three points when debutant Nasser El Khayati set up Phillips to head in at the back post.

Freddie Sears could have equalised for the Tractor Boys in injury time, but Alex Smithies saved sharply to secure Hasselbaink's first win at Loftus Road, more than two months after he replaced Chris Ramsey as boss.

The R's stay 13th in the table, while Mick McCarthy's Ipswich drop out of the play-off places after losing their second successive away league game.

    QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink:

"To win overall is satisfying, and obviously at home, yes.

"When you see the first half and you go in 0-0 at half-time, you've done yourself an injustice.

"But I think we kept being positive, kept plugging away, kept going and kept having the trust that we would score the goal we deserved."

    Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy:

"It's where you are in May that counts and the key is to get into that top six.

"The conditions were horrible but it ended up being an exciting game and we were much better in that second half and could have scored.

"I thought we were the ones that were the most likely to win the game in the second half, so to have conceded in the last few minutes makes it even more disappointing to lose."

Over here the most notable lottery game is Lotto 649 (selecting 6 numbers from 49).

Our family has a set of 6 #'s, plus I'm part of an office pool of 4 people. After all these years playing we have yet to win a major prize, so perhaps these #'s might be luckier on your side of the pond?

Lotto 649 started off as a $1 ticket once per week ($52/yr) and is now a $3 ticket twice a week ($312/yr). Now along the way, we've had a few $5, $10, $60 prizes, but in hindsight that money would have been far better invested in our children's higher education.

The #'s 35 & 37 were selected by myself in each set and represented my age at the time, I turn 63 this year!

Must be just a coincidence then that every time he starts we play well. As usual he was central to everything good that we did in an excellent first half performance and he can't be blamed for the strikers not finishing things off. As soon as he went off we reverted to the long ball game that Ipswich had already adopted and from that point on the result was in the lap of the gods rather than our control. I will always wonder how things would have panned out for us in the PL if he hadn't suffered that horrendous run of injuries but I suspect we would be there now - he really is that important IMO.

Did your alter ego take over half way through writing this Jimbo
"Don't agree on polter , he was instrumental in virtually all the chances we made . I was at the game , Washington looked good and luongo was superb "
So agree with all of this spot on Jimbo

"Still don't see what ale does , overrated"
So disagree with this....Ale is the heartbeat, he wins tackles and is so very good with the ball.... but watching him yesterday, things "don't happen around him"....to explain what I mean ...he is so aware of the 3D space around him, like Bobby Moore was, he stops things before they happen, he thinks a second before anyone else. The opposition don't pass into his space, because he closes it down before it is there...he plays simple balls out of defence....and now he is allowing Luongo to play in front of him, which is why Luongo was MoM yesterday.

I was worried when I saw we were effectively playing 4-2-4 yesterday (yes I do realise JFH is getting the front 4 to come back and help more....but the front 4 are forwards and wingers, and not naturally suited to the role)...I thought we would be swapped...we weren't, and until Ale went of we were bossing the midfield...it was a pleasant shock.

Ale is a fragile flower and we have no-one with that skill to replace him, when he is injured/tires...Tozer, Henry, Doughty, or Cheri are not an Ale sort of player nor were Sandro or Fer
He is irreplacable at the moment

I have said it that many times on this forum that I've lost count, it is many, many years since we've had such a natural talent as Ale at the club and that includes that Moroccan idiot.

Winning a game, can come in various ways, other than scoring a wonder goal.

A late save by the keeper; a last ditch tackle or clearance off the line by a defender; cutting out a through pass by a midfielder, are all winning moments.

A losing moment; just a many, like an attacking player needlessly giving away possession, which the opposition capitalise on and score directly from the mistake.

So what part of any of the above does ale do then ? A wonder save ? No A clearance off the line ? Cant recall one A cutting through ball leading to a goal ? Nope can't recall one

    Thanks for making my point

Good to hear Ale and Luongo were playing well together. They seem an ideal pairing who I have wanted to see all season- hopefully next weekend.

You seemed to miss the sarcasm, I will leave that one with you !!

and if you read my post, it was "cutting OUT a through ball"

Implying there is more to the game than just goals, stopping a goal is just as important

Without wishing to sound too much like the French bloke, if you don't see what Faurlin brings to the table then I don't know what you're watching
