Bloody hell. I'm actually getting quite excited for Leicester now. Tiny bit jealous, cos I'm human. But come on the Foxes ! This a proper underdog story, I really hope they do it. (I really hope anyone but Tottenham does it tbf, but especially Leicester).
I've not been paying attention to any football today, but just a few minutes ago I looked at various scores and saw Man City 1-3 Leicester City. All I could think was WOW ! They can do this and I believe they will, providing their squad can remain fit and healthy.
For the first time in a game not involving Saints, I might just find the 90 minute Footballorgin file of today's match and watch that 1-3, just to see how Leicester took Man City apart. I bet it was bloody entertaining.
They were 19/4 to beat Citeh today, had to have a little bit of that and glad I did. Would love to see a Leicester or a Southampton win the greed league.
For kicks, the run in for each team in the top four, using the average points per game of their opponents. Leicester: Seven home matches. Opponents' points/game: 1.22. Six away matches. Opp ppg: 1.35. Overall: 1.28. Spurs: Six home matches. Opp ppg: 1.40. Seven away matches. Opp ppg: 1.28. Overall: 1.34. Man City: Six home matches. Opp ppg: 1.43. Seven away matches. Opp ppg: 1.17. Overall: 1.29. Arsenal: Seven home matches. Opp ppg: 1.22. Six away matches. Opp ppg: 1.54. Overall: 1.37. Not too much to choose between City and Leicester. The home/away split probably plays into City's hands, given that they are far better at the Etihad than away from home, but Leicester doesn't seem to care where they're playing. Arsenal and Spurs have pretty challenging runs in, with Arsenal's away schedule particularly painful.
I'm not on the Leicester side of things. I am selfish and would rather the top 4 remain old school unless its us that breaks in
That's a bloody boring lookout, if I may say so, Imp. If we can't upset the apple-cart I'm happy for LCFC to do it. Somebody has to stop the endless Top 4/6 bore. At the very least it stops pseudo sage supporters, who think they know what they're talking about, because they heard a few pundits say the same, say that their own team can never do what Leicester are doing. It gives everyone hope, so plaudits to them.
No ... We drew to Man City at home. Man city have apparently failed to beat any of the top 6 which is interesting
It would be great to see Leicester do it and I think they will providing they don't have injuries to key players. They have been extremely consistent and of the teams to play us at St Mary's I think they were the best and you can see why they are there. Unbelievably they have had hardly any injury concerns long may it remain, unlike us last season which scuppered us
The thing about Leicester is not just that their points total is so high, it's the way they have done it. Their strategy is "We'll score as many as we possibly can". That makes them the most entertaining thing to have happened in the Premier League for years. It helps that they have players who seem never to run low on speed or energy but it's the attitude I love. They add up to much more than the sum of their players. Before the exodus we were the same. If Leicester do win the league we may see a move to more attacking football overall (there are fashions in football as much as in clothing); I'll be cheering that. Vin
I like a different team being in with a chance....nice that it is Leicester. Playing the right way and who can dislike Leicester. Would I like any other teams outside the big 4 to win?....Southampton obviously, Everton possibly, but Newcastle, Liverpool, West Ham, Spurs....definitely not. Makes me feel a little sick that I recently wanted Liverhampton to win....though that was before I realised they were a bunch of pirates who would be cruel to Rickie.
I think Man City and Arsenal have a lot of distractions right now. I don't know if anyone can match the spirit and team unity that Leicester City must have going on right now, but Tottenham is at least similar. And we know players love playing for Pochettino. How much impact does that have? I don't know, but in a close race it's something to consider.
Looking more closely at their schedules, Arsenal have a tiny advantage in that it is at least theoretically possible they win all of their remaining games. But they won't. After that, it comes down to how well Leicester can pick themselves up after the vicious 6-0 shellacking they will take at home April 2. If they come through the that okay, Tottenham and Man City are both guaranteed to lose one of their final two games and take a 7 or 8 goal hit to their goal differential, to boot. They will all need 77 points to even have a shot.
