That sums it up pretty well for me, I thought we played well and were starting to dominate in the 2nd half. Hernandez miss with the header was the defining moment, if he had scored then we would have won it.

I thought Meyler should have come on instead of Huddlestone, it was that type of game and he could've been used to counter Joey Barton, but ah well, we are still in the driving seat heading to Blackburn, who we have a decent record against.

Bruce seemed disappointed in his post match and I don't blame him, but we kinda did the same to Fulham last time out, I guess we can't win them all.

Stop panicking! We lost a game by the narrowest of margins. We're still well on track for promotion. Move on!

I agree with this. I was at the game and I think if you weren't there, the easy assumption to make would be that the substitutions directly influenced the goal as the goal came so soon after them. I don't think they did. However, I just don't get why you'd take AH off in his form. Yes he did miss chances today but that's not to say he couldn't have popped up with a goal at the end coz that's what strikers in form do! WTF bringing on Aluko! Yes he played fairly well last week but that was the first time this season and against average league 1 opposition! Diame barely influenced the game so why not bring Akpom on for Diame and play Abel and Akpom together for the last 15 mins.

clucas doing nice one- two passes back and forth with Robertson on the left wing this afternoon boils my piss- he needs to get forward- too much pratting around passing around the penalty area and no one going forward- lost a game we should have won and got wet through for a thoroughly **** day- we had them on the rack for most of the second half just couldn't put the friggin ball in the back of the net- rant over onwards to blackburn next week.

Whilst driving home I must have thought about that Hernandez chance with the header about a dozen times, it was a brilliant run from Robertson and if it goes in for me we win how ever that's football. Overall I thought the defence was outstanding and we deserved a point but we didn't its now very tight with a number of teams involved lets hope we get back to winning ways next week, Regarding the substitution's I was surprised when both Hernandez and Diame came off together I thought only Diame would have come off because for me he didn't do enough today.

Taking Hernandez off was a really **** move, he's our only really good striker, anything short of a leg break and he should stay on the pitch.

Diame did little, switching him for Akpom should have happened earlier.

Meyler for Hayden was the other obvious substitution, Hayden's early yellow made him far less effective and I'd have switched them early in the second half.

One really odd thing today, it looked like the wide men were all told not to cross, Odubajo, Snograss, Robertson and Clucas all had numerous chances to whip a ball into the box, but didn't.

We're **** on the road, we've been **** all season, we should be going into away games with exactly the same attitude and game plan as we do home games, but instead it seems we're usually playing to not lose, rather than to win.

Just watched the goal. Really poor defending from us. Davies shoulda cleared it, Robbo shoulda cleared it. Dawson plays Vokes on.

Aluko played well last week playing on the left and then right wing. He ran at people and caused problems.

Today we brought him on up front and pumped long balls up to him. I might have mentioned before that he isn't a bloody striker. He's a similar type of player to Mahrez but obviously not as good.

What's the deal with Diomande anyway? Is he just **** or what?

It was quite an even game.

If Hernadez had headed the ball down instead of over the bar we would have gone 1 - 0 up and maybe won.

We seemed to try and play it into the area when a quick cross might have been the better option

We didnt play **** by a long way.

Just unlucky they scored so quick after the substitutions.

    Me ?

I had a great day watching Hull City the team i love ...with my mac nurse of the last 7 years who supports Burnley.

Looking foward to going to Blackburn next saturday and hoping we stuff them

It was really strange. They played little triangles around their right back on numerous occasions almost as if they had to do 8 triangle passes before they were allowed to cross. The cross onto AH's head was one of the best in the match proving that when they want to they can produce the perfect cross - but why didn't they keep on doing it........

It does seem to be an increasing tendency across the board. The tiki-taka effect?

It does look wonderful when it works and I am all for it being attempted at any level of the game. I don't think is should be slavishly adhered to at the expense of more direct tactics when they might be appropriate though.

I am sure the increasing influence of statistics and playing the odds has much to do with it. If some stats show that only 1 in 20 crosses results in a good chance while 1 in 15 slotted through passes do, there is likely to be increasing concentration on the latter.

Even the most effective of teams at the quick passing game seem at times to miss good alternative opportunities by their over adherence to the tactic. They are usually good enough to make up for it though. The teams less effective at penetrating by slide rule passes to perfectly timed runs need to use every other opportunity they get.

There is nothing wrong with the occasional long ball at the right time. There is certainly nothing wrong with a good cross into the box either.

I fear we are taking a lot of instinctive decision making on the spot away from players. (Granted, in some cases that might be a good idea.)

Not particularly aimed at City btw.

Crossing is a bit of a lottery. Most of the time they're easily defended and you're just hopint for a striker to lose his man as one comes in, so I can understand us trying to create a bit more space rather than slinging it in hopefully.

That said, every time Burnley put it in the box we seemed to be really struggling. Between McGregor and the whole back four, no one was really dealing with them. Makes you wonder why we can't be that dangerous against much weaker defences than ours.

Do we have strikers or others who are good at making runs onto crosses? Hernandez is arguably more for through balls. I'm not sure who our best header of the ball in the opponents area is now. You at least need enough players in the box to create some havoc.

Diame can be brilliant at it but you never know if he's gonna be awesome or pointless. Today he was the latter.

On the radio it was said at one point that there were two in the box just sitting there waiting rather than creating any movement. They should work on stuff like that on the training ground, not just for set pieces. And if you hardly have anyone in the box anyway there isn't that much chance of the ball breaking your way.

Diame and Hernandez can both head the ball reasonably well and Burnley were iffy at the back, the keeper was particularly iffy, I'd have been banging in crosses as often as possible.
