I reckon due to 'Arry's ability to ''cook the books'' I reckon that after tax,Joe Cole wouldn't any worse off.
we have two things with cole. i think... 1. he wants to play badly. 2. he got a big pay day off of us to sign up and would get another from spurs. I think he'd want 70k there which is 1mil per year less? harry will give him that in the signing on fee. if he gets back to england squad and is in london he may well pick up lots of sponsorship deals. in the end though.... my opinion is with bale and VDV tottenham won't have a role for him... can't see him pushing them out.
Agree with other posters. It is just to do with the wage bill. I would say we might start shipping out the deadwood and then maybe get a left-back in. It is important to have some departures though because they are taking up significant resources which could be spend more effectively.
I just generally think its in our best interests and the interests of the players themselves to not have players on our books that will not get games. There is a few of them and they do not at this stage need to be listed,as you would have had to have lived on jupiter to not know who they are.
Personally, I'd like to see Aquilani and Cole stay. I think they both have something to offer us. They have both had a decent pre-season so far. Players to go, some of which have been forgotten should be: Degen, El Zhar, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Kyrgiakos, Aurelio, N'Gog Players to send out on loan: Pacheco, Wilson, Spearing, Shelvey That should reduce the wage bill by a few quid!
I'm still not too sure about Cole. He is on a massive wage and I can't see him getting the amount of games to make us paying him £90,000 a week worthwhile. Completely agree with the other players you have mentioned. By the way, welcome to the forum!
I reckon Cole should be played on the right, when he is played. There are too many central midfielders so shift him out to the right. I think him and Henderson can compete for a place out there. Use Kuyt as a striker now, he formed a good partnership with Suarez. I'm not saying drop Carroll, but simply rotate them a little as it's a squad game these days. With the players I mentioned out I think this should be our squad - I'm a great believer of having at least two players for every position. GK - Reina, Doni, Jones RB - Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan CB - Carragher, Agger, Skrtel, Ayala LB - New Signing, Insua, Robinson RM - Henderson, Cole CM - Gerrard, Lucas, Aquilani, Meireles, Adam LM - Downing, Maxi ST - Kuyt, Suarez, Carroll, New Signing Thanks for the welcome. Can't argue with the point about 2 players in each position and squad depth but the position that Cole has could be occupied by a younger player coming through the ranks. I still feel that if a decent offer comes in, he will be off. If he does stay though, i'll give him my support.
I think that squad is interesting. 1. KPR is right the dead wood is obvious in who doesn't get added to a person's 25 man prem squad. 2. Ayala at 4th cb isn't going to happen but i agree soto is just too slow and only good for certain very rare games when a big guy like him is good, (stoke) 3. jones i think needs to go, he's not good enough nor tall enough. 4. that squad only had 19 players over 21. kelly and henderson are U21. flanagan and robinson are 18. 5. spearing is missing and i'd not put him in the dead wood group. we pay him nothing really.
With Aqua, developments in Italy could prove crucial. Pirlo went to Juventus from Milan --> Milan reportedly want Fiorentina's Montolivo --> Fiorentina need a CM.
MoreInjuredThanOwen - I really think we should give Ayala a go as he's impressed on loan. Jones I agree isn't good enough but he's alright as third choice. I wasn't saying that should be the final squad but trying to make the point that we had two players for each position. We'll sign a couple more players. I am aware that Kelly is 21 and Henderson is younger, and the younger full backs but again was just trying to make the point of having cover for every position. I think we should send Spearing on loan if Aquilani stays.
The squad is broken into 3 groups. Home grown players most important.We're over our quota. Overseas players.We're under our limit. Players that are under 21 that are not part of the 25 man squad.A club can use as many players under 21 as it wishes. Apparently,Martin Kelly and Jordan Henderson aren't part of the 25 man squad,as they've just turned 21 and are under the limit.
I think Meireles will stay. Aquilani may go but personally I'd like to see him given another chance. If we offload Poulsen to Fulham and maybe loan Spearing/Shelvey then think of the competition and options we would have in the middle of the park?! Gerrard, Lucas, Aquilani, Meireles, Adam competing for 2/3 positions. That is the type of quality cover we need.
Not to mention CC and FA cup runs with those same midfielders inter changing. Still worried about depth out wide ( actual depth not so much oh a player can fill the void) and our backline still needs to be strengthened.
Apparently Kenny isn't happy with some of the players.He said performances have to improve in order for some to have any chance of being part of the first 11,there is a number of players he's not happy with. Poulsen. Joe Cole. Aquilani. Ngog. Overall the squad needs to step up their performances.
Aqua? What has he done wrong on the field other than be sublime? I understand he is one looking to get back to Italy but at least he is playing well, being creative, providing assists, while the others the less said the better.
