So much for all this big name talk nonsense, oh well, I wouldn't mind this personally, I'll welcome him
Bloody hell - I'm not exactly enamoured by the prospect of LJ being appointed (at least, not at this moment in time), and this season has so far been largely disappointing, but I think too many of you are going OTT with the negativity. I'm sure the club could be run better from the top, but it's hardly like they're running it into the ground either; in fact, after the years of posting significant losses year on year, perhaps that this has been addressed, whilst getting promoted back to the Championship, was actually quite good? Plus, we're not down yet - there're plenty of games left. When things aren't going well on the pitch, fans are looking for someone to blame - usually the manager, or a player or two, but now it's the board's turn. Was Karl Oyston a model chairman when Blackpool got promoted to the Premiership with possibly the smallest budget in the League? Was he brilliant for a season or two, but lost his way (hence the subsequent relegations)? How much credit/criticism should Leeds performances get thanks to the presence of the (ahem) 'eccentric' Massimo Cellino? Look, part of the point of a fan forum is being critical, I'm just finding the whinging about 'not having a clue how to run a football club' (as if you do) and 'threats' to not renew season tickets etc. a bit hyperbolic. Looking at the real 'disasters' endured by other clubs with owners that have dropped the ball (Blackpool, Charlton, Portsmouth, Cardiff to an extent, etc.), there should be a certain amount of 'be careful what you wish for'. Ultimately, SL has Bristol City's best interests at heart, which wouldn't necessarily be the case with someone else.
sorry Nick, this is not what the owner has been harping on about, what he said and what we are getting are two different things.
Club have probably been knocked back by a lot of people because of where we are and want to wait til the end of the season however the club prob feel they need someone in now
If ge The club are in this mess because they themselves caused and orchestrated it. SC was sacked at the wrong time of the season, if he even had to go to start with. Even an idiot could see it would cause huge problems, yet those responsible didn't get it and still proceeded ?
I think it was definitely that video of him and the fan that did him in unfortunately only reason I can see for doing it at that point in time
I've just been over to the Barnsley board to try and guage their opinions. Blimey - they must be so disillusioned with their club - they don't talk about football on their board - it's all silly word games!
What I don't get is why has this only come out now? January market has been and gone, LJ has had no say in players he might want in. Did it really take that long to think that LJ could be the man for the job? This could have been done weeks ago. That's why I'm not confident that the board knows what their doing..or there are things we don't know, like,no other manager was interested at the money we were offering or the promises we were making....Makes you wonder! NB. Bet Redprintt is happy!!
sorry, but what exactly has steve Lansdowne been "harping on about" please enlighten me because I have yet to see one quote attribituted to him over last few weeks.
Its probably as simple as the board creating a structure, in which top managers are not prepared to work. As things are at the moment I dont see the need for a head coach, as Pemberton is doing an ok job and Ashton obviously is holding most of the power. It wouldnt surprise me if LJ decides not to take it because of Ashton. If he does he gets my support, however does make a mockery of our recruitment list. I think the Bristol City DNA which Ashton goes on about means this (Do not Ask, cause we aint going to tell you).
We'll never know. Although it won't have done him any favours of course. But plenty of Managers have spats with fans. Maybe it was a combination of the uninspiring results and the issue with the fan in the Atyeo. Remember Cloughie smacking the bloke who ran on the pitch at the City Ground in the late 70's/early 80's ?
There are no Barnsley fans on that board, the dozen or so people that post on the board support other clubs
If he gets appointed he will get my support....however Having seen the previous management and squad that were all conquering in League 1 struggle this season I was hoping for a manager with the experience and know how in at least the Championship to take the club forward. As for all the quality "applicants" most likely they may have been expressions of interest that said no thanks when they saw the set up with Ashton and the role of coach rather than manager etc.
We need to all remember that 99% of what we hear and read on the various media is pure speculation. The names Moyes, Pearce, Warnock, to name a few have been no more than a wish list by fans. Who knows who has applied??...we don't ...only those in the ivory tower know and with City's track record on spilling the beans to fans, we won't find out any time soon. It could be a case where perhaps some top end applicants have indeed had interviews, but, as touched on earlier, have been scared off by whatever structure city have, or would have, in place...I bet MA don't come cheap so my guess is he will have a fairly pivotal roll to play and perhaps some candidates didn't want that? We just don't know what has gone on, which as usual, is par for the course at AG. Lots of supporters, including me, suspect all is not well behind the scenes in some way or another.....its just all bloody frustrating!
I remember a City 'fan' screaming 4-letter abuse at Gary Johnson all the way through one game from just behind the dugout - the full 90+ minutes. How GJ took it I don't know - I would have really struggled to be honest. That was when we were mid-table in the Championhip and nowhere near the drop!
Write where shall we start, Lansdown quote, i want to employ a experienced manager/coach and we will take our time finding him-a rookie is being employed it seems. Ashton,You will be amazed by the names and high quality showing interest in the position.-Lee Johnson give me a break. I was told from the inside circle, pearson was the man they would like,i have no doubt that was correct, but this guy is not going to be a puppet for the non football people running the asylum. Either he did not like what he was told,or the club could not afford him. I would imagine that is pretty much the same with the other high calibre managers. why has it taken so long to appoint a new manager,i personally think they stated at a,b,c and are now at r,s,t in the pecking order.
'Junior's comments on Championship goals last Saturday lead me to believe he will be appointed within the next week. He will change the fluence and we'll stay up. So I won't mind him managing BCFC for now' R&W - Just knew it would happen. Out of all this it just makes BCFC a laughing stock, what a pathetic bunch we have in charge. 4 weeks ago we sack SC and 'Plan A' begins. 4 weeks later, the world and his wife turn us down - hey presto 'Plan B' - we've employed Junior. Only a fool would think I'd want Junior to fail. I've said before he'll most likely keep us up even if it's with the 'dead cat bounce'. Honestly, the Board have showed me what a useless bunch of losers they really are.
