I'd give him the extension myself. We need leaders in this time of some transition and he's still a very good player. Probably best centre half in the league last season.

But I can see why the club want to wait for a new manager's view.

Exactly, they probably want to give the decision to whomever is appointed in the summer.
Its a big thing to decide, will you keep him, how often will you play him, will you keep him as captain.
Its a big thing to impose on a new manager, saying "Right you are stuck with John Terry as your captain" which essentially means you have to start him.
Making the decision now would be unfair on whoever comes in. JT knows this!
Lampard wasn't given a contract extension in his last year until the summer.

This is the bad news story of the day, but I have a hunch that all the debate that has already taken place over it might cause a change of heart come the end of the season.
I always remember being in the East stand when he came on as a sub in his debut and me and the pals went home saying we thought we had a promising new boy in the squad. Didn't realise how promising.
The chant for every game for the rest of the season must be "JT must stay! JT must stay!"

    I remember that game too.
Him and Jon Harley were tipped as future world beaters.
Well they got it half right <laugh>
We had lots of promising youngsters come through that season, Mark Nicholls and Jody Morris too.

Yeah, think Jon Harley ended up at the Blades and Mark Nicholls at Scunthorpe I believe.
I remember a game, think it was against Coventry at the Bridge 98 sorta time.
Drawing 1-1 and Mark Nicholls came on and scored 2 goals in the last 10 minutes and we won 3-1.

John Motson likened him to Jimmy Greaves <laugh>

EDIT Sorry looked it up, Nicholls went to Grimsby Town, not Scunthorpe.

Yeah I remember reading Dennis Wise's autobiography and he said that Morris used to frustrate the hell out of him, because he was so talented, but just wouldn't apply himself and used to **** around alot.

I remember a game where Zola did this brilliant bit of skill in the middle of the park and sprayed a lovely ball out wide - textbook Zola I thought. Camera zoomed in and I realised it was Morris not Zola!

Really talented lad but just didn't push on. A bit like McEachran in a way.

You'd put that carthorse in front of JT? You're deluded!

That guy lives in a permanent draught.

As it goes the thread doesn't make sense as he hasn't retired, he is upset that he thinks he's been binned.

Although Emergency Manager Gus says he may be offered a new contract.

So as I correctly stated earlier in the thread, this has all been very well played by Terry's agent (who I have also met - that one's for Bluey who still can't believe that anyone has ever met a footballer!).

Yeah it seems like he's seething

My guess is Terry has been offered crazy money in China or somewhere and this is aimed at forcing Chelsea's hand one way or the other.
