right guys here s a , dilemma , been watching this bloke all season .and have came to the conclusion that he does not play by the rules .

reason being , he refuses to give cards , even if its a bad tackle worthy of a card ...he wont do it ..

why ? well basically he gives lots of chances to players, ( even if its really bad ) because he just
wants a quiet non controversy game.. and that as the rules do not allow this

Mr clattenburg is also starting to do the same as well ,
to sum it all up , these two are going to be the english euro refs as well ...
so if you dont dish out the cards then the euros is your reward ..poor

..how on earth micheal oliver is not going is beyound me ... he is not afraid to make big calls and does play by the rules ..

do yous think its the way to ref . keeping cards in pockets , for a quiet game .
    just my view

Fact is, if a ref makes a red decision, if it's spot on he gets 2 seconds of praise on MOTD, if not he's "ruined the game", a "terrible, blind b******" etc etc and gets dropped for a week. If he does nowt, the FA assumes this bullshit "didn't see it" and put a retrospective ban in place. No risk.

Think cards, both reds and yellows, can really change a game. Even with yellows a player on one yellow tends to think twice about making challenges he should be trying to make. Its one area where the refs have to make an interpretation, was it deliberate or just clumsy etc and often appear to be influenced by players moaning around them etc or players play-acting injuries.
There has been a lot of debate about the use of video refs for penalty decisions, the argument against being you would have to stop play etc. Don't see the issue with cards - take them completely out of referee's hands and leave it to a video ref or panel. Ref blows for a foul or not - the panel makes a decision and awards red or yellow cards as necessary. In case of last man decisions there would have been a foul awarded anyway so they just stop play until decision for red, yellow or no card has been given.
As soon as decision by panel is made play is either stopped for player to leave field (for 2nd yellow or red) or just carries on for 1st yellow. Of course there may be incidents where the player may be involved in a goal, just before being sent off for an incident under review. However don't see the problem in letting that stand. Would be great seeing a player bearing down on goal though when announcement that he is being hauled off comes through.
This would mean that the ref could concentrate on decisions regarding the actual play, would stop players trying to get others sent off. The video ref/panel could also award cards for simulation etc.
Trev - maybe you can bring this up at next FIFA meeting. Bung is in the usual place.

You may not have noticed...<doh>...but I got out just in ti...changed jobs. I think some well deserved praise is due to a particular poster on here <cough>me<cough> for the change in transfer policy but does anyone notice it? No, sirree. There are none so blind as those that cannot see!!

Agree with technology but not in the way you suggest.

Video evidence should be available for incidents involving goals, red cards, second yellows and penalties.

Referee can call upon it at any time HE wishes and each team have 2 appeals each half.

I'd rather get the right decision than debate it after the game especially as we seem to have more swings than roundabouts.

You will always be cheating Sebb to me whatever moniker and avatar you choose.
Trouble is it will end up too stop and start. Have been to a live American Football game and while it may look great on TV its bloody boring at the game. You have to get the right balance and I think I am right (am I starting to sound like someone we know?). Let the ref make decisions on play, use the video ref for disciplinary but while game is going on.
When you are watching a game you can sense a change in momentum and managers would use the appeals to disrupt these.

The ref in charge of the last derby, he was a thoroughly spiffing chap.

    Tally ho.

i for one think that refs are he problem with the game ..the less control they have the better ..also think there should be a clock that stops starts like basketball ..

everyone can see ,,, would love to know how much time is wasted through refs talking to players , actual time being wasted by players .

i, sure everyone be suprised how much time the ball is in actual play every game

Peter Crouch would make a good basketball player. Abber Clancy likes it up the hoop.

Another point about referees. For me the two best are Oliver and Clattenburg and therefore us and sunderland suffer as they can't referee our games. Not much that can be done about it though.

And did you know Atkinson earns more than the Prime Minister. £150,000 a year and expenses. Nice if you can get it.

A game of football would be so much easier to referee, if the cheating twats on the pitch would play ball. People complain when they get the cards out too early and now when they dont.

One thing for sure, football would be ****ed without them.

I think the refs should get less stick imho. It's hard to ref games. In rugby every decision a ref makes is final. No one complains. If refs had a zero tolerance to players cheating and talking back and booked them instantly it would soon stop. The refs should be able to tell the player. Stop now or you get booked. Anything the ref misses during the game can be looked at after the game. Diving cheating etc and action taken then.
